Way ahead of initial plans, Virgin Atlantic plans to install high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi to over half of its aircraft from early May. Virgin Atlantic’s Airbus A350-1000 will be the first aircraft type to receive Starlink, before the airline introduces it across its entire fleet by the end of 2027.
The airline has revised its plan to bring forward the installation from quarter three to May. British Airways was the first UK airline to install and use the service on one of its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners (registration G-ZBJJ) on flight BA197 to Houston in March 2026.
Flagship New York JFK route set for Starlink in May
Virgin Atlantic has said that the new Starlink Wi-Fi technology will be available first on its flagship VS153 London Heathrow to New York JFK route.
Announced in July 2025, Virgin Atlantic became the first British airline to commit to complimentary, high-speed, fleet-wide Starlink Wi-Fi. Passengers will enjoy a ‘home-from-home’ experience and will be able to stream TV shows, game with friends on the ground, watch live TV and even make brief audio calls.
Chief Customer Officer at Virgin Atlantic, Juha Jaervinen, said: “We were the first airline to announce free, fleet-wide Starlink Wi-Fi, and from May, we’re starting to deliver it for our customers. As the rollout gathers pace, we plan to deliver 100% Starlink connectivity across our fleet in 2027, as part of our focus on creating a brilliantly connected experience.”
Virgin Atlantic aims to have all 12 of its A350-1000 equipped with Starlink by summer 2026. The airline operates the aircraft on a mix of leisure and business routes, with two configurations to match. By installing Starlink on its flagship aircraft, Virgin Atlantic will be able to offer a wide range of its passengers high-speed free Wi-Fi.
In the second half of 2026, Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will be fitted with Starlink, with two-thirds of the aircraft finished by the end of the year. The airline expects to complete Airbus A330neo installations by the end of 2027.

What is Starlink Wi-Fi?
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, allowing for high-speed internet access to rural communities, and namely, aircraft. The service offers speeds of over 100Mbps, allowing for a seamless internet experience even at 35,000 feet.
Numerous global airlines such as Qatar Airways, AirBaltic, United Airlines, and British Airways have already installed Starlink on their aircraft. These airlines offer seamless gate-to-gate connectivity for free. Several major airlines are expected to begin Starlink rollouts throughout 2026, including the Lufthansa Group, Southwest Airlines, Korean Air, Gulf Air, SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) and Emirates.
