Saudi budget carrier flyadeal has announced its high-density cabin configuration for its new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, scheduled for delivery in summer 2027. The airline’s ten A330neos will have 14 premium economy and 406 economy seats, representing one of the highest-density A330s in the industry.

With a range of over 11 hours, flyadeal plans to deploy its new A330neos on routes from Saudi Arabia to Asia, Europe and Africa. The airline is expanding quickly, with plans to operate over 100 aircraft and serve more than 100 routes by 2030.

What to expect onboard flyadeal’s A330neos

Regardless of cabin class, every seat will have adjustable headrests, USB-C charging, and seat and back support. The cabin will feature ambient mood lighting throughout to create a modern and fresh cabin.

Designed by Italian firm Geven, the airline’s premium economy cabin will feature 14 seats in a 2-3-2 layout across two rows. Each seat will have 38 inches of pitch and 8 inches of recline.

Chinese seat manufacturer Jiatai is making its Middle Eastern debut with flyadeal. Its economy seats will be arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration with 30 inches of pitch. Like other low-cost operators of the A330, flyadeal has opted for a nine-abreast layout to maximise capacity on long-haul routes.

flyadeal’s acting CEO, Sanjiv Kapoor, said: “After almost 12 months working behind the scenes on specifications for our new A330s, flyadeal is now embarking on its widebody journey in preparation for entry into service next year. The interiors have been carefully chosen with passenger comfort, space, weight, durability, sustainability and ambience central to our decisions.”

Low-cost and high-density is becoming the industry standard

flyadeal’s 420-seat configuration places it among the highest-density A330 operators in the world. AirlineRatings.com recently analysed every high-density A330 operator, from Cebu Pacific’s record 459-seat layout to the reason why budget carriers try to squeeze a ninth seat into every row.

When its A330neo enters service, it will rank third as the current highest density behind Lion Air and Cebu Pacific. Other Asian budget airlines, including AirAsia X and Vietjet Air, have orders for the airframe, with cabins expected to be of a similar density.

The A330 is wide enough to accommodate either its standard 2-4-2 configuration or a tightly packed 3-3-3, adding up to 80 seats per aircraft. High-demand routes generally mean every seat is occupied, which equals lower operating costs per passenger, and in turn increases airline profits.

The decision for increased seat capacity is not an engineering one, but a commercial one.

For flyadeal, its new A330neo represents more than a new aircraft type. It is the foundation for the expansion of an international network that did not exist three years ago.

As the airline prepares to commence operations to Europe and Asia, it signals that Saudi Arabia’s low-cost market is growing and has big ambitions outside of the Middle East.
