Vietjet named Asia Low Cost/Hybrid Airline of the Year by CAPA

Vietjet has been named Asia Low Cost/Hybrid Airline of the Year by CAPA – Centre for Aviation, with the award presented at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia 2026 in Chitose, Hokkaido on October 1st and 2nd. Ho Ngoc Yen Phuong, the airline's Vice Chairwoman and Group CFO, accepted the award and spoke at the summit about the next stage of Vietjet's growth.
CAPA is one of the aviation industry's main sources of market intelligence, and its Asia summit brings airline chief executives, airport leaders and policymakers into one room each year. The Awards for Excellence assess strategy and innovation, which means a win reflects how analysts and industry peers read an airline's business model. This year's summit was also the first held in Japan in nine years, and Airline Ratings supported it as a product sponsor.
CAPA's judges recognised the hybrid model Vietjet has built over 15 years of flying. The airline has added widebody Airbus A330s for longer international routes and widened its fare range so that leisure, family and business travellers can each buy the level of service they want. It also plans to fit Starlink Wi-Fi across the fleet, and it is investing in a maintenance facility at Long Thanh while exploring engine overhaul capability in Vietnam.
"For Vietjet, Hybrid means offering passengers more choices and better experiences on a foundation of competitive fares, operational efficiency, and safety," Ms Phuong said.

The CAPA title matches what our own editors and readers have found this year. Vietjet placed in the top 10 of our World's Best Low-Cost Airlines, it holds a seven-star safety rating and featured among our safest low-cost airlines for 2026. In August our readers voted it Favourite Low-Cost Carrier and gave it Best Cabin Crew Uniform in the Flyers' Choice Awards.
