flew from Perth to Sydney in November 2012 on QF580 A330 and from Sydney to Perth on QF577 on an older Jumbo 747.
I made the booking Online via the Qantas website and it was the first time I experienced choosing seats at the time of making the booking which is much preferred, hate sitting next to the toilet. In the past as I recall you could only make a seat allocation at the check in stage 24 hrs before departure, I never acquired good seats at that stage.
Had some issues using the check in at the Domestic Airport when loading multiple bags onto the conveyor system. A bag was overweight and I tried to cancel the loading whilst I removed some weight so as not to incur a fee and it charged me for the excess weight anyway. Qantas staff were on hand to assist and fixed the problem, they also deducted the overweight charge fee. Had I not allowed some extra time at the Airport before departure I would have had to pay the charge as I couldn’t spend the time sorting the mistake out.
Qantas lived up to its name totally as per my ratings above even on the older Jumbo flight back to Perth which had the slightly smaller video screen for in flight entertainment. It’s always nice getting your meals included in the price instead of having to pay for sandwiches and minimal food during the flight as I have experienced on Virgin & Jetstar
