Qantas has announced the addition of two new international routes to its growing global network, with direct flights from Perth to Auckland and Johannesburg set to commence in December 2025*.

These new services will enhance connectivity for Australians across Qantas’ extensive international and domestic network, which now spans more than 100 destinations worldwide.

Bookings are now open for both routes, which will contribute to the continued growth of Qantas’ western hub. The new services will add more than 155,000 seats to and from Perth annually, support local job creation, and boost inbound tourism to Western Australia.

These flights are made possible through federal funding allocated to Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. This funding enables Perth Airport to expand its staffing, equipment, and facilities to increase border and biosecurity capacity—paving the way for more international flights.

The new routes will also improve global connectivity for passengers traveling between New Zealand, South Africa, and the broader Qantas and partner airline network.

Key Route Information:

  • Perth–Johannesburg inaugural flight: 7 December 2025*

  • Perth–Auckland inaugural flight: 8 December 2025*

  • Both routes will operate three times per week on Qantas A330 aircraft:

    • 27 Business Class seats in 1-2-1 configuration (lie-flat beds, direct aisle access)

    • 224 Economy seats

  • Flight schedule:

    • Perth–Auckland (QF111): Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays | ~6 hrs 45 mins*

    • Perth–Johannesburg (QF65): Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays | ~11 hrs 15 mins*

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said:

“We’re thrilled to be launching two new international routes, giving Australians even more choice and flexibility to connect with the world.

“Direct flights from Perth to Auckland and Johannesburg not only open up tourism opportunities and create local jobs, but also strengthen our domestic network by enabling more connections across Australia.

“Our new Perth–Auckland route will offer West Australians a convenient one-stop connection to New York via our QF3 service, while the direct Johannesburg flight provides vital links to cities like Cape Town through our partnership with Airlink.

“We’re grateful to Perth Airport, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and Australian Border Force for their collaboration in making these new services possible.”

Perth Airport Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove added:

“This announcement is fantastic news for Western Australia. Perth is a growing hub with significant potential, and we’re committed to working with airline partners like Qantas to expand aviation connectivity.

“Enhancing capacity at Terminals 3 and 4 is an important step that enables Qantas to grow its operations in WA as we prepare for their move to our new terminal at Airport Central in 2031.”

Additional International Network Updates

Qantas will introduce its Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Brisbane–Los Angeles route from October 2025, offering daily flights and significantly increasing premium seat availability for Queensland travellers with the inclusion of Premium Economy.

During the peak travel season of December 2025 and January 2026, Qantas and American Airlines will adjust their schedules in response to demand:

  • Qantas will operate four weekly Brisbane–Los Angeles Dreamliner flights.

  • American Airlines will operate three weekly services on the same route.

  • Qantas will increase its Melbourne–Dallas Dreamliner service to daily for the same period.

  • From February 2026, Qantas will resume daily Brisbane–Los Angeles flights.

As part of Qantas Group’s dual-brand strategy, Jetstar will end its Sydney–Honolulu route after its final flight on 24 October 2025. Jetstar’s Boeing 787 aircraft will be reallocated to Asia, while Qantas will take over the Sydney–Honolulu route with five to six weekly services, complementing its recently launched Melbourne–Honolulu flights.

Additionally, Qantas’ final Airbus A380 will return to service in January 2026, operating daily Sydney–Dallas Fort Worth flights, offering more premium seating options (First, Business, and Premium Economy) on the route.
