Malaysia’s Malindo Air is expanding its Australian beachhead by adding Adelaide to its roster of Downunder destinations. The full-service Malaysian carrier also flies directly to Perth from Kuala Lumpur and to Melbourne and Brisbane via Denpasar in Bali. The aircraft comes equipped with 12 business class and 150 economy class seats and will also provide a one-stop option to Kuala Lumpur with a short one-hour layover. Its cabins feature a 32-inch seat pitch in economy and 42 inches in business class. Passengers on the jets get an included checked baggage allowance of 25kg in economy and 40kg in business. Economy passengers can also take 7kg of cabin baggage while those in the business cabin are allowed 10kg. Meals and refreshments are also included. Four weekly flights will depart Adelaide at 7.40am on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday; while Denpasar-Adelaide flights leave at 12.05am. Adelaide Airport managing director Mark Young said the airline would be the first since 2006 to offer a business class product directly between Adelaide and Bali. “This service provides South Australian passengers with more choice when heading to two of our most popular destinations, and also creates opportunities to attract South East Asian visitors to our city and local attractions,” he said. Malindo chief executive Chandran Rama Muthy said the airline’s fourth Australian destination was also the 56^th across the network of 17 countries serviced by the carrier. “As for Adelaide, we anticipate business, leisure and VFR (Visit Family and Relative) travelers, and will certainly explore on more frequencies in the near future,’ he said. “With this, we hope to boost passengers’ traffic at the airports and promote local tourism.” Malindo operates more than 800 flights weekly across a growing network throughout South East Asia and Australia. The airline was launched in 2013 and began serving Australia in 2015 with the flights to Perth. It is a joint venture between Indonesia’s Lion Air, currently in the news over a fatal crash last October and the grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft,  and National Aerospace and Defence Industries of Malaysia.
