Cathay Pacific to Offer 100% Seatback IFE and High-Speed Connectivity Across Entire Fleet by August 2025

Cathay Pacific is proud to announce that starting August 2025, it will become one of the very few airlines worldwide to provide both 100% seatback inflight entertainment (IFE) and 100% high-speed inflight connectivity across its entire fleet—setting a new benchmark in premium air travel.

Passengers on all Cathay Pacific flights, regardless of route or cabin, will be able to enjoy the airline’s cutting-edge IFE system alongside high-speed Wi-Fi, underscoring the airline’s dedication to outstanding customer experience and thoughtful design. This advancement aligns with its vision of becoming the world’s best premium airline.

Guillaume Vivet, General Manager Customer Experience Design, commented:
“This major milestone is a testament to Cathay Pacific’s enduring focus on innovation and customer-first design. We know how much our customers value excellent entertainment options and dependable connectivity while travelling. Whether they are flying for business or leisure, our guests will soon enjoy award-winning entertainment and seamless Wi-Fi on every flight—enhancing their journey to be as memorable as the destination itself.”

Since pioneering seatback IFE in 1992, Cathay Pacific has consistently invested in digital innovations onboard to elevate the travel experience. This commitment to excellence continued this year with the introduction of 4K HDR—bringing ultra-high-definition displays and an expanded colour palette to create a richer, more immersive, and user-friendly viewing experience.

“It’s inspiring to see a world-class airline like Cathay Pacific making such a strong comeback and aiming to reclaim its position as the world’s best airline,” said Sharon Petersen, CEO of AirlineRatings.com. “The airline faced an exceptionally challenging period, being one of the last in Asia to maintain a strict ‘zero-Covid’ policy while operating a wholly international route network. At one point, passenger numbers were down by 99%—a truly staggering impact.”

Petersen added, “There’s something incredibly reassuring about boarding a flight and knowing you can stay connected or enjoy inflight entertainment. It removes so much of the pre-departure stress—whether you’re a business traveler racing to meet deadlines or just making sure you’ve downloaded content to your phone. It’s that extra level of convenience and peace of mind that today’s travelers really value.”

Cathay Pacific’s commitment to innovation in inflight entertainment has earned the airline multiple prestigious accolades. It was named a Gold winner in the “Excellent Communications Design – Interactive User Experience” category at the German Design Award and also received the Red Dot Award for Brands & Communication Design – User Interface Design. Adding to these honors, Cathay Pacific, in partnership with JPA Design, secured two Crystal Cabin Awards: one in the "Passenger Comfort" category for the groundbreaking "IFEC: In-Flight Entertainment & Control" system featured in the Business Class Aria Suite, and another in the newly introduced "Judges' Choice: Airline Innovation" category for the "Gallery In The Skies" project. The IFEC system enables passengers to manage their environment and access real-time cabin updates via four seamlessly integrated screens, elevating both comfort and efficiency. Meanwhile, "Gallery In The Skies" reimagines the cabin as a flying art gallery, showcasing works by Hong Kong-based artists and offering a culturally immersive experience, as part of the redesign of the Boeing 777-300ER fleet.

Travellers can expect a bespoke, world-class journey with Cathay Pacific’s carefully curated inflight entertainment library, which includes exclusive branded content. Additionally, First and Business class passengers, along with Cathay Diamond members, will enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi access across all flights.
