Australia will open its borders to fully vaccinated international tourists from February 21, 2022.
Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the decision following a meeting of the National Security Council.
“I know the tourism industry will be looking forward to that and over the next two weeks they’ll get the opportunity for them to be gearing up to welcome international visitors back to Australia,” Mr. Morrison said.
“The condition is you must be double vaccinated to come to Australia. That’s the rule. Everyone is expected to abide by it.
“I think events earlier in the year should have sent a very clear message to everyone around the world that it is the requirement to enter into Australia.”
Unvaccinated travelers will need to apply for an exemption and will have to undergo hotel quarantine if they are granted permission.

Philip Goh, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, commented;
"Today’s announcement by the Australian government to open its borders to all vaccinated travelers from 21 February 2022 is greatly welcomed by the airline community and a big step forward.
"The Asia Pacific region has been very cautious in its approach to border restrictions so far but in recent weeks, we have seen growing momentum towards relaxation of travel restrictions – in the Philippines, Thailand, and to some extent New Zealand.
"We urge other governments in the Asia Pacific to look at similarly further easing their border restrictions so as to enable aviation businesses to accelerate their much-needed recovery and to bring maximum benefits to their economies."
About Airlineratings.com
Airlineratings.com was developed to provide everyone in the world a one-stop shop for everything related to airlines, formed by a team of aviation editors, who have forensically researched nearly every airline in the world.
Our rating system is rated from one to seven stars on safety – with seven being the highest ranking. Within each airline, you will find the country of origin, airline code, booking URL, and seat map information. The rating system takes into account a number of different factors related to audits from aviation’s governing bodies, lead associations, as well as the airlines, own safety data. Every airline has a safety rating breakdown so you can see exactly how they rate.
Over 230 of the airlines on the site that carry 99 percent of the world’s passengers have a product rating. Given that low cost, regional and full-service carriers are so different we have constructed a different rating system for each which can be found within each airline.
