Tokyo to Seoul (Oct. 2013) return
Tokyo to Okinawa (May 2013) return
Tokyo to Sydney – Several times in the past 18 years.

JAL is a very polite airline where even economy class passengers will have their jackets hung in a cabinet till landing time.

Check in is smooth, friendly and fast. Bags arrive in good condition and I have not lost a bag yet. Thanks JAL.

But JAL has demonstrated a lack of appreciation for their food service and the in-flight food is simply horrible. I have now stopped eating on JAL flights and instead take a “Bento” (Box meal) which I purchase in the airport shops on to the flight. Worst case, I buy some sandwiches after security at one of the convenience type of stores and carry it on to the plane.

JAL is also making redundant some of their more experienced in-flight ladies and replacing them with very young and mostly non Japanese speaking Asian “girls”. I worry what would happen in the event of an emergency. Can these ladies carry the burden? Can they guide passengers out without going into a panic shock?

On US Carriers, the in-flight staff are much older, but they are also better experienced to deal with unruly passengers, drunks, bullies and the like.

JAL should understand that not all passengers want to see young ladies on flights, many of use who have been flying for 40 years ++ are more concerned with the QOS.
