Travelling by Air India within India is a nightmare. We had a confirmed ticket for a party of 7 consisting of two families. We arrived at the Delhi airport 1.5 hours before the fight time and were checking in our luggage when the counter staff started giving us the run around. This run around resulted in dropping my wife and daughter who had come over from Melbourne to attend the wedding in Mangalore. This is not where it ended. We – the group of 5 now – only got our seats until Bombay where we were to get seats for onward journey on arrival at Bombay. No such luck. We were not the only people but nearly 15 other also had the same fate. After much argument we got on the plane to reach Mangalore few hours late. As regards my wife and daughter Jet Air provided the service with similar drama in Bombay.
Same drama was repeated the next day for some of our other relatives. It appears to be a feature with Air India – they need to get their act together and stop overbooking or use a larger plane. This way they can maintain their customers and get good comments.
