If you're afraid of flying don't watch this incredible video of pilots struggling to get their planes onto the runway. Cargospotter in Germany has captured some amazing footage of turboprop pilots fighting hard with wind gusts up to 70 knots - 129km/hour or 80mph - to land their planes. “Some of these airplanes were thrown around like light feathers in the wind,” said Cargospotter. “I am pretty sure the passengers of these flights will probably remember these flights for a long time.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI9YthsaL6g “Some of them had to approach three times until they finally managed to land. It’s incredible to see how skilled some of these pilots are and this video definitely proves why pilots are definitely not overpaid.” Where a pilot faces a crosswind landing they need to point the aircraft in the direction of the wind while maintaining a straight course toward the runway. This is called crabbing or yawing. In strong cross-winds the pilot may also dip the wing – sideslip – into the direction of the wind. Just before touchdown pilots apply rudder to bring the plane – and its undercarriage - back so it is aligned straight down the centre line of the runway. This takes great skill and the results – if not done properly - are often quite spectacular as shown in video. The Bombardier Dash 8 or Q-Series, featured was previously known as the de Havilland Canada Dash 8 or DHC-8. It is a series of twin-engine, medium-range, turboprop airliners introduced de Havilland Canada (DHC) in 1984. Over 1,000 Dash 8s of all models have been built
