A Trigana Air Service ATR-42-500 with registration PK-YSP, was on flight IL-292 from Serui to Jayapura in Indonesia with 42 passengers and 6 crew members.

While taking off from runway 28 at Serui Airport, the crew aborted the takeoff, causing the plane to veer off to the left and hit an earth wall about 20 meters from the runway. Several people were injured and taken to a local hospital. The aircraft was significantly damaged, including a collapsed left main landing gear.

The airline confirmed that the plane skidded off the runway at 10:35 local time.

Local police stated that a technical issue, which hasn't been specified yet, caused the plane to go off the runway.

Indonesia's Ministry of Transport reported that initial information suggests everyone on board is safe, although some were injured and have been taken to a local hospital. The plane was trying to take off from runway 28 and came to a stop off the left side of the runway, about 1,200 meters down. The incident is under investigation.

No weather reports (METARs) are available for Serui's Stevanus Rumbewas Airport, which has a runway 10/28 that is 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) long.
