About Air Niugini

Air Niugini is the national airline of Papua New Guinea, headquartered in Port Moresby. Since its inception, the airline has played a crucial role in connecting the diverse and often remote parts of Papua New Guinea with each other and the world. It was established to bring under one umbrella several small regional operators and to create a unified national carrier. Starting with domestic flights, the airline steadily grew to incorporate international services, helping to foster stronger links with other nations, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The airline's growth was instrumental in the economic development of Papua New Guinea, facilitating both tourism and trade. The fleet of Air Niugini consists of a variety of aircraft suited both for international and domestic flights. This mix allows the airline to efficiently manage its networks, ensuring larger aircraft for international routes and smaller ones for the domestic and shorter regional routes. The versatility in its fleet size and capacity ensures that Air Niugini can adjust to varying levels of demand and maintain regular service even to less accessible locations. This adaptability is key to its operations, given the challenging topographies and widely spread out islands that characterize Papua New Guinea. Air Niugini provides a wide range of services, emphasizing passenger comfort and safety. It offers both international and domestic flights, thus playing a pivotal role in making air travel accessible for both business and leisure travelers in and out of Papua New Guinea. The airline places a significant emphasis on customer service, continually adapting to the needs of passengers. Services provided cater to various customer segments, including business class and economy class, each tailored to provide a pleasant travel experience. Additionally, the airline actively contributes to local communities, not merely through service provision but also by fostering employment and training opportunities, highlighting its commitment to the socioeconomic development of Papua New Guinea.

From Unprofessional to Unlawful – A Shocking Airline Experience My husband and I were flying from Cape Town to Berlin with a connecting flight in Amsterdam. We arrived at Amsterdam with plenty of time and sat at the gate indicated on the screens. The screen only showed a delay—there were no announcements over the speakers and no information from staff. Suddenly, we received a text message informing us of a gate change. We immediately went to the new gate and arrived just five minutes after the message, only to be told we could not board because we were “too late.” However, two passengers who arrived after us were allowed to board without issues. How is that acceptable? We were checked in, had boarding passes in hand, and were present at the airport the entire time. Based on what we witnessed, it appears our seats were given away to other passengers. To make matters worse, the three women at the gate behaved incredibly unprofessionally—they were dismissive, rude, and even laughed in our faces as we explained that our minor children were at home alone in Berlin, waiting for us to return. We asked for their names and they refused to provide them. We received no support. The complaints desk simply rebooked us for the next morning. As a result, we are now spending the night in the airport—exhausted, distressed, and extremely worried about our children at home. This experience was not only deeply unprofessional, but it raises serious concerns about fairness and compliance with passenger rights. How can it be legal for a company be allowed to operate this way? They sell you something and then do not deliver. And then there is no accountability, communication or owing up to a mistake. Deceitful company. I would be ashamed to work there.
