I arrived at Perth airport on 17 Sept 2015 for a 16:35 MH124 flight to KL to find my flight delayed by 50 minutes - meaning I'd miss my next 3 connections including a Ryanair flight which wasn't part of my international booking, so would be forfeit. MAS staff in KL had to be hunted down to assist, I stood at the MAS counter for 4 hours while they tried to reroute me, 4 staff doing nothing, 2 staff dealing with upset passengers. Malaysian couple told me this is the norm for service in Malaysia! Eventually I was rerouted via Dubai at 2.30am and sent to a hotel. I spent the next morning trying to rebook my Ryanair flight from Rome to Catania at my expense. Also lost a paid hotel booking for one night as I was a no-show. MAS won't accept any liability for the lost flight and hotel. I don't understand why I wasn't rerouted from Perth BEFORE I started my trip as I was never going to make the BA flight leaving KL anyway. If I had been rerouted from Perth, I probably could have flown Emirates via Dubai directly to Rome, arrived in time for my Ryanair flight and not had 20 hours at KL airport! Then my luggage was lost for a week and only returned 1 day before my tour of Sicily ended! EDITORS COMMENT: What a mess! that's really unfortunate and hopefully under the new CEO these sort of things will be sorted.
