In July 2015, I flew business class from Beijing, China to Toronto Canada, connecting through Taipei Taiwan. While the in-flight service and product were great, the EVA agents in Beijing nearly ruined my trip and made the entire experience of flying EVA miserable. After speaking with a clueless agent, the supervisor insisted that I would need a visa to transit through Taipei enroute to Canada. However, Taiwan allows travelers continuing to a third country on the same day to transit-without-a-visa (TWOV). The agents insisted that I would have to miss the flight and go apply for a visa in order to transit through Taipei (I am a Canadian Permanent Resident). EVA should re-train the agents in Beijing so that this doesn't happen to other travelers in the future. Clearly there is a lack of understanding on visa/passport rules and regulations within EVA's Beijing team. Even checking EVA's own website (http://www.evaair.com/en-us/flight-information/visa-information/) would show that my documentation allows me to transit Taipei without a visa.
