We bought round trip tickets for June departure and July return. We lost our baby patient on their plane on our way to the destination. They have a rule that in the event a passengers dies, you will be offered a free return flight. We needed to return to our country right away but they refused to give us a free return flight. They made us call different people to get the return flight but they all denied to give us one. They said we only had the death summary given to us on the plane, instead of a death certificate, which is why we couldn’t get the free return flight. After multiple calls, we finally spoke to someone that told us that we should purchase the return tickets and we could claim the refund later on when we have the death certificate. I called today to get a refund but I was told, the rule doesn’t apply anymore since we went ahead and purchased the return tickets. We were mislead, there was inconsistent information, my only hope is that Ethiopian airlines will train their employees or find competent ones.

I flew Ethiopian return from CPT to UK. I upgraded my ticket for the return journey (ET847). The seating was fantastic – but I was totally disappointed with the food served. I am GF and I never got a decent meal… Even though the hot dinner was GF, the other items on the tray were full of Gluten! If I had not checked the ingredients I may have been poisoned.
I thought the food would be better in Business. Other passengers had a choice, I had to eat what was put in front of me. The before-dinner snacks were full of Gluten. For starters I was served fruit salad and green salad, followed by a fish-dish with tomato (it looked like it came from Economy). The dessert trolley and chocolates were full of Gluten!
The service, staff, and bed were fantastic, but the meal was disappointing. Ethiopian did not even try!
I am unhappy that I paid so much and ended up eating the same, boring meal that I got in Economy. I would like Ethiopian to upgrade my partner’s ticket free of charge from ADD to CPT when he returns mid-July. Upgrading his ticket would make me happy again.

yesterday i was on the Ethiopian Airlines website looking for a flight to Nairobi Kenya. your site suggested a flight from Boston, and it said “+1” for arriving the next day. i selected the flight and paid the fair. as soon as the itinerary came up it actually was +2 – two red eye flights back to back. i called the help line and was told that there was no way to cancel a reservation made an hour previously because the flight was “less than 7 day s away”. i asked to speak to a supervisor and again was told that the rules state that the flight was less than 7 days away and the only way to cancel a USD$795 ticket was to pay USD$300. i understand the “rules” but i have been traveling internationally for years and every airline i’ve ever traveled on allows a ticket to be cancelled if the request is made an hour after it was purchased. United Airlines, British Airlines, American Airlines, i have had this happen to each one but for some reason Ethiopian Airlines has no flexibility and no customer service.

I flew from Johannesburg to Bahrain on the 14th April 2019 and returned on the 19th April 2019.

    Pros
    The aircraft was good
    Everything Worked
    The flights were all smooth

    Cons
All fights departed late and arrived late
This meant that I was rushing in Addis to catch the connecting flights both ways
Flight from Bahrain left over an hour late
On the way to Bahrain, we stopped in Dammam which was not reflected on the ticket
The drinks are hot and there was no ice on any flight
    Food is not good
The general hygiene is bad. The toilets are the worst that I have ever seen.
Some flights have TV’s behind the seats and others dont.

    General Notes
Ethiopian Airline are generally cheaper than other flights but not worth all of the negatives. If I had the choice, I would not fly with then again.

I am disgusted with the treatment I have received from Ethiopian Airlines. I traveled to Malawi to attend my father’s funeral and scattering of his ashes. A sad and stressful time. This was compounded by the fact that not only did I not received my luggage on the day of my arrival (13th February), I still to date have not received it (26th February). I am now back from Malawi after spending the 4 days that I was there wearing the same clothes!! I had to go to my father’s funeral and scattering of his ashes in the same clothes I had been wearing for 3 days!! My vacation was budgeted and was not meant to be going clothes shopping!! As well as the fact that where we were was in a remote area of Malawi. You have cost me a lot of money, you have cost me a lot of stress. I have made a monetary claim with Ethiopian Airlines which you have ignored along with ignoring where my luggage is. I am disgusted. Thank you Ethiopian Airlines for causing me such stress
