Finnair takes no responsibility to rebook cancelled flights! Service is poor to pretty average and customer service is a disaster. Booked a Spain to Sweden flight recently, so transfer in Hel. First leg to Hel is ok. Connecting flight turns out to be not on Finnair ( despite AY code) but some local small low cost outfit called next jet. It's been cancelled. Again it seems from discussing with the other stranded passengers who say they flew this flight before and the small aircraft is an old beaten up Saab turboprop carcass barely fit to fly from 40-50 years ago, so no wonders it get cancelled 50% of times! The main issue is that when this cancellation happened, Finnair then says it's not " their" flight anymore and they will not help with anything. Most passengers booked either direct on finnair or have, like me, clearly finnair tickets and flight code. Need to go to the service desk for multiple airlines. They booked us hotel and rebooked ys on next morning 0800 flight... On Finnair! ( thought it was not a Finnair flight??)... Of course, when coming back to airport next morning, booking is nowhere to be found...

I have nothing to complain over the flight attendant's and the flight itself. How ever the seat for such long journey I took one would wish for better comfort and leg space on an economy flight! Another thing that annoyed the heck out of me is the food choice system that do not have people with lots of food allergy in mind. I have both lactose and gluten intolerance. It is easy to get milk free food, just to take vegan meal. Since I am a vegetarian, that is no problem. But when you need to have vegan gluten free, it causes problems. You call the costumer support and try to explain to them that you have allergies and it is your right to get gluten free vegan meal, due to allergies. Without having your trip destroyed caused by unspeakable stomach pains that makes you fall in to fetus position, or in worse cases die of severe allergy chock. They said that they understand my frustration, that i should send a complaint so they can take up this in a meeting, and that they can not promise anything that I will get gluten free vegan food to eat on the Journey! I was lucky enough to get gluten free vegan food and for that i give Finnair a HUGE +

I have used Finnair many times over last 2 decades. It's so sad, that once great company is failing so miserably. But maybe they get better again someday? - the website is horrible, with countless errors. It's very rare to find it working normally - Know-how in the Finnish service desk is poor, I have really been in big trouble with double credit-card charges and so on - You should always record conversations & ask for written confirmation with desk staff, e.g. negotiating refunds etc. Normally they will not honor agreements - ½ of the cabin crew is not so nice, might be better on baggage handling or something - servings in economy are non-existing, sometimes worse than low fare airlines + safety is good, even in "difficult" airports, the pilots are well educated + In business class seats and meals are ok + ½ of the cabin crew are really nice + Usually check-in works quite ok + Baggage handling works quite ok, never lost my bags + If you need service from abroad, call the US number, they are very helpful Free tips for Finnair: New functional website. Some service in economy flights too. Staff update & education

A340 Singapore -Helsinki and back. Terrible experience. Food was truly awful, I'm not a picky eater but I couldn't eat even half of it. No snacks offered. Plane was dated, tiny screens, nowhere to put your phone, old hard seats. I got a tiny dirty smelly pillow that was smeared with food, which was exchanged. Staff felt a bit rude compared to other airlines. Will not be flying with them again.

Finnair shouldnt allow intermediaries like JUSTFLY.com, to ruin their reputation. Just Irresponsible I bought 2 tickets Dallas / Porto Business class. It cost me about $9000, $4500 each. We travelled from Dallas to Porto on 14 Dec, but we need to change our return flight date on 27 Dec to 3 Fev. Here is what happens after 4 days of attempts with JUSTFLY costumer care All the Costumer support you can get is "try to call again in 48 h, since there is no fare available for the new flight". You can try any date for your new flight, they will always say the same, that they can not book it since there is no fare available yet, and that you should try in 48 h again. The company that operates our flight is Finnair, so i reached the customer support in Helsinki. They have flights available, they want to help us, they actually could change the return flight date, if JUSTFLY cooperate. Easy to understand that this is a SCAM, that is taking advantage of your situation. Our seats will be empty at the checkin moment, and they will make more money with the same seats again, in the last minute deals. it's inaceptable. There's no office you can go to complaint.

Finnair was once a luxury Nordic carrier. The reason: The decision-makers in this tiny country of 5 million people wanted to reflect their design and style -- reflected in Scandinavian glass and textiles -- and independence. Meaning Finnair was supposed to make a statement against Aeroflot. It once did. But no more. Avianca, a so-called Third World airline, is superior to Finnair. Test my theory: Call Avianca's general phone number. You will get a real person who speaks Spanish. Finnair? Nope. You will never speak to an agent or rep in Helsinki. Not even if you hold a Business Class ticket. Finnair routes your call to a boiler room in Bulgaria, of all places. And here is the real problem: Once you call that boiler room, you will be in an Orwellian world. They read a script, and are not authorized to do anything for you: "No we cannot re-book you. We need approval from the Help Desk in Helsinki at Finnair headquarters." QUESTION: Can I please have the number to that Help Desk? "No we are not allowed to give it out." QUESTION: Can you call them now? My flight is leaving in 40 minutes. "No, they are closed. But I will have them call you after they open." 10 days = no call!

Very disappointing booking. Tried booking a multi city itinerary from AMS to TLL/VNO/RIX and back with a stopover in helsinki. Tried everything, different dates, stopover in helsinki on both flights, or one of the two, or to different destinations. Nothing worked. Either we were unable to continue to the next page after selecting our preferred flights, or we got an error and couldn't continue. Tried their helpdesk via internet forms, Facebook or their chat service (which doesn't work) to be told that I was doing things wrong (even though I told them beforehand that I didn't do those things, think of them telling me I didn't select the flights or tried a flight combination that isn't possible). Tried calling their callcenter, but was connected with a bad line and people not speaking english that well, which brought me nowhere. Ended up sending videos of the problems and what I did, just so they would understand that it is an error on their side. Only reply was thank you, but we are unable to book the flight for you. Basically they thanked me for reporting an error on their side by sending me away. I've had Ryanair provide me with better help. Service was as other airlines

During our trip Finnair lost our luggage for 3 days, and their representative told us we would get a spend budget to buy essentials, so we bought essentially and then he miss-informed us telling us we can get our money back by sending the receipts to an email when we get home. We followed his instructions when we got home (more than a month later) and then when we never got a response we called the airlines and they refused to give us our money back because it was not within the “21 days” something their representative never explained to us (even though we asked). In the meantime they put a Finnair sticker all over my plastic luggage that would not come off, causing me to have to throw my almost new luggage out...they refused to pay for that too. Not impressed with the awful experience I had with Finnair. I fly often and have used many airlines but this is by far one of the worst experiences.

Extremely poor service. Staff came across unfriendly and rude. Food was terrible, no snacks inbetween the first and last meal. Blankets were low quality, didn't even keep warm. Toilet were filthy and smelly before departing, obviously wasn't cleaned before the flight. Overall experience was dissapointing and i will definitely choose another airline next time. It really looked like a low buget flight/airline which i didn't expect from Finnair.

Very bad customer service. They lost my baggage during a flight from London Heathrow to Xi'an, China. It has been over one month and there is still no feedback from the customer service neither to my claims not even to my contact attempts. They simply do not obey international legislation on lost luggage responsibilities (aka the Montreal Convention) as they completely disregard the customers' requests for information or rightful claims. Guess the only language they understand is civil courts! Also, there were colleagues of mine who were overbooked and were almost stopped from boarding the aircraft. The plane also departed very late because the staff was incapable of sitting people down and getting them ready for take off. Took at least one full hour to board and take off. Food served on board was also completely disgraceful. The only good thing was probably the water... In short: bad service in air, bad service on the ground, and bad customer service.

A couple minutes ago I reserved a ticket on Finnair.com. Would not recommend it to anyone! Aside from the poor user interface, it returned an error when I wanted to pay. According to the customer service I needed to start over, which resulted in an increase in price! Sorry that is just not cool.

Outward flight from London Heathrow - newer plane with good entertainment, clean seats etc. The return flight was far more inferior - seats were worn/appeared dirty, missing inflight magazine. Homeward - dropped my mobile phone, reported once home - had to phone FINDLAND not complete a form online. Mobile found. Had to PAY for the phone to be POSTED BACK - not sent on one of their many flights to the UK. Mobile returned DAMAGED and then told I had to make a claim against my travel insurance and they are not liable. If they were able to tell me exactly where my mobile was found on their flight they should know how handled it and therefore how tried to remove the battery causing damage. In the same way I would make a claim for damage to my suitcase caused whilst on their property I compensation for damage they caused to my property. Disappointed that the response time from their Customer Services team and Lost property staff was inefficient. Overall, not the standard of service I would expect for ANY airline.

This was only my second time flying with Finnair and my first long-distance flight with them. I was not at all impressed. To me it makes no sense to put someone in the middle seat of a group of three seats when one seat in the group of two seats a row ahead is empty. But I was most displeased by the fact that not only did they not have my confirmed special meal (vegan), but could not come up with any reasonable substitute. That's partly because the two main cabin entrees were chicken and beef, whereas the normal and logical thing to do is make one entree pasta or at least fish so as to allow some flexibility. My impression was that Finnair does not care about economy passengers, but it's possible they don't care about any of their passengers.

Bangkok-Manchester-Bangkok. Excellent value for money and overall a very good experience. Timings are perfect for us and the layover in Helsinki is a few minutes going out and an hour and a half on the way back. And the lounge in Helsinki Airport is very nice. I like the old A340 business class seats and actually prefer that cabin layout to the separate seating that will be introduced on the A350. I always travel with my wife so its a much more sociable way to travel. Food choice was a little odd coming back - trout, pork neck or ravioli - not the best but for me seat comfort, timings and price are the major considerations. And the food and wine in the lounge prior to take off more than made up for this.

Finnair is infamous for having a terrible frequent flyer programme and things got a lot worse recently. My recent experience: - expensive flight compared to other airlines - recent changes to frequent flyer benefits meant I would have had to pay for the bag that was included with the old rules - assigned middle seat for no reason (plenty of seats where still available when I checked in) - I paid for my seat and was still put in the last group - boarding procedure changes from flight to flight for no apparent reason (several other passengers were confused) - in sum: an overall experience worse than with one of the super cheap airlines, but for a much higher price. If you have options, stay away.

WORST AIRLINE EVER !! MY BUSINESS CLASS SEAT FROM ROME WAS ACTUALLY AN ECONOMY SEAT WITH A CURTAIN DIVIDER SUPOSEDLY SEPARATING THE 'BUSINESS CLASS' FROM ECONOMY I DONT EAT PORK SO I COULD NOT EAT THE MEATBALLS OFFERED AND OPTION WAS NOT OFFERED. MY CONNECTING FLIGHT WAS DELAYED 5 HOURS SO I WENT TO THE BUSINESS CLASS LOUNGE ONLY TO FIND THERE WAS ONLY SALAD, AND I USE THE TERM LIGHTLY. I ASKED THE ATTENDANT IF THERE WAS ANY OTHER FOOD, TO WHICH SHE ADVISED ME THAT AT 21.00PM SOME HOT FOOD WOULD COME OUT. I HAD NOT EATEN SINCE 16.00 PM. THERE WERE NOW APPROXIMATELY 200 PEOPLE IN THE LOUNGE BY THIS STAGE AS OTHER FLIGHTS WERE DELAYED TOO. ONE CONTAINER OF SWEET CHICKEN CURRY WAS PROVIDED. AFTER A STAMPEDE, THERE WAS NON LEFT. TO ADD TO THIS SO CALLED BUSINESS CLASS LOUNGE, THEY OFFERED ME USE OF THE SHOWERS - I WASHED MY HAIR BUT THERE WAS NO SOAP AVAILABLE AS IT HAD RUN OUT SO I HAD TO RUN AROUND THE SHOWER ROOM LOOKING FOR SOAP? WITH DRIPPING WET HAIR. MY FLIGHT FINALLY LEFT AT 2.00AM. NECER FLY THIS AIRLINE. NO WONDER ITS GOING BROKE.

My flights this summer were good, normal, although food would be good to have for a flight from Madrid to Helsinki... what suprised me more is the time it take to collect the luggage. We were waiting for nearly 1.5 hours, with a lot of people in the same place (maybe the whole Finland? It was too much people for that space). No any people from the company, sometimes a message by radio, quite a cold and robotic one... At least in the last year it was corrected and now it is possible to book for the pet instead of making a special purchase by email and lengthly procedure. However, this year I have another problem with refund of the ticket, as I consider the closure of Finnish boarders as a force majeur... while the chat on the web site does not work, and there is no way to communicate with something that is not a robot to get any possibility of understanding and option of solution... Technology is good until a certain point. FINNAIR lacks the human touch.

On 4th of june I booked 2 tickets and made a reservation for 2 bikes. On 23rd of june I got an email that my flight time changed and they offered me a refund. On july 31 I gave more information about my bikes. On august 2nd after hearing nothing since June 4th I accepted the new flight. 2 days later they mentioned to me that it wasn't possible to bring my bikes after I accepted the new flight schedule and they don't want to give me a refund with the argument that I didn't mention that I wanted to bring bikes... I never had such a bad experience with a flight agency. First they change the flight without mentioning that the bikes were full and offer me a refund. 2 days later I can't get that refund option anymore..

I do not recommend flying with Finnair, I will never fly with them again. As a cheap flight company they overbook their flights, meaning that even though you have a ticket, they might refuse you to get on the plane. This happened to me. I would have expected an apology and instant help to get me on the next flight, but this didn’t happen. Their flight attendant tried to put the blame on me saying that it was my fault and I was late for the flight. I wasn’t late, I had 2 people lining up in front of me who got on the plane, when the line got to me I got told that sorry you can’t get on as there are no seats left. Also, the flight attendant wasn’t really helpful with finding a solution she was acting like it was not her problem. Very poor customer service!!

Flight was delayed for 10+ hours from Singapore with no communication from staff on the ground. There was severe lack of planning, management, staff and control. Boarded finnair flight on 12th June from HEL to DEL. Business class was almost full, only 5 or 6 seats were vacant. Since I was seating at the end in the business class section, the crew were forgetting to serve refreshments and breakfast every time. They had to be reminded every time. Food was just below the level. Not what is expected when some one is paying the premium amount. There were not too many options and everything was just in one tray. The presentation was also lacking, although I liked there glass design. The cabin crew just didn't had any smile and lacked english skills. They just didn't understood what the passengers were requesting. There were few Finnish passengers too and with them they were conversing in Finnish with all smile and confidence and explaining them everything. They were just a middle aged typical nordic blondes who were friendly but lacked conversation skills with non- Finnish speaking passengers.

Traveled twice in Business Class, HKG - LDN (Heathrow) (21.09.15) and return (22.10.15) via Helsinki. Both long-haul flights were comfortable, lie-flat beds, easy access to aisle etc. Attentive cabin staff and easy transfer in Helsinki. All flights arrived on time. BUT food served in flight was DISGUSTING! It was quite obvious the food served departing HK had been put on board the day before in Helsinki and kept for the return flight! The food departing Helsinki, whilst somewhat fresher, was not much better. I can honestly say it is the worst airline food I have experienced since travelling economy on Air India in the mid-70's. The red wine served however was very good quality. Departing London despite 'Priority' on the baggage labels two suitcases were off-loaded in London due to a full and overweight flight. These two suitcases arrived in HK 30 hours late! The fact they both belonged to my wife made the situation at home even worse!! No apology nor contact from Finnair. So beware. EDITORS COMMENT: Great to hear how good the new Business class is with the lie fat beds but its a shame about the food - you expect better from business class.

After paying $5,200 for two economy flights from Melbourne to Denmark with Finnair I discovered that Finnair would not provide a meal to meet my dietary requirements - the first time I’ve ever experienced this on an international flight. The only option was for me to provide my own food for a 25-hour journey. Fine. Upon check in, my husband and I found that we’ve been seated separately in two middle seats, despite being booked, paid and ticketed together. Despite there being other seats available on the flight, we were told that we could only be reassigned if we paid an additional AUD$150 per person, and even then we would not be seated together. This would bring our total spend to $5,500, sitting separately and with no meal.

Terrible customer service. Seems Finnair's strategy is to out source and take no responsibility. Call finnair customer service and they tell you to dial a number for their partner... the number never answers. Finnair customer service refuse to escalate or help. They leave you with no options This is simply not good enough. THey act like a no frills airline but dont charge like one.

Flying from Rome Fiumicino to Helsinki on December 23rd 2014. I had to pay 3 euroes for a coke and 7 euroes for a sandwich. I understand budget problems but I think providing a small snack and soft drink for free will not bring Finnair to bankruptcy. Only things for free were blueberry juice and still water, coffee and tea. Wondering if on my return flight to Rome these items will still be free.

My direct JFK to HEL flight was cancelled without explanation. I had to call to be rescheduled same day but with a layover in Heathrow and on a OneWorld partner (American). Was given the worst seats in the back of the plane each time. I arrived 7 hours later, losing a day of my trip in the process. If I wanted to buy discount tickets I would have done so. Instead I got a budget travel experience at a premium price. How hard would it have been to provide a seat with extra leg room in exchange for the inconvenience? That's all it would have taken to keep me as loyal as I had been, flying Finnair at least 2-3 times a year on long haul flights.

I flew from ZRH to Tokyo in Economy class, and paid to have a reserved seat. Upon arrival at ZRH airport check-in, I was told that I was "on standby". When I informed them that I had paid for a reserved seat, they said they could not see it in their "system". Upon arrival at HEL, the staff there was able to see our seat reservation. Check-in staff at ZRH and Tokyo was rather unfriendly and had a cocky "the airline is never wrong" attitude. Staff at HEL and rest of the flight was fine though.

Before flying the brandnew A350 from PVG to HEL I was quite excited, having flown it now I would suggest the Dreamliner is still ahead. The actual Finnair experience was good average: check in staff at PVG were from China Eastern, so they couldn't care less (made the same experience with another airline) - I still don't understand why air carriers care so little about this, outsourcing that important part of the journey... Seats were ok, although when the passengers in front of you recline their seats, the entertainment screen gets into a funny position to watch and is unfortunately not adjustable. However, the new Finnair infotainment system is awesome and I loved the live camera views during the flight. Food was average and so were the FAs, unfortunately. Compared to other carriers, such as Qatar, VA Australia, Service could be improved. The connecting flight from HEL to HAM though was a shocker, lucky this old E190 took off, very classic cabin design, no food, no entrainment- not much for a 2h+ flight and a full service carrier. Overall a solid flight experience with no surprises- good and bad. EDITORS COMMENT: Thanks for your balanced review and feedback of the A350.

I have flown on Finnair for over 100 times, and never have I left the airplane dissapointed. Lovely cabin crew is always on board and better than average food is served on the long haul flights. A few minuses are: no personal entertainment systems on European flights(small aircraft), and the old 340's are very outdated(to be changed by new a350s though). It is by far my favorite airline and I recommend it to everyone.

Flew 2 legs with Finair on this trip. Singapore to Helsinki was on the A340. Great flight, cabin crew were really good, service was good and the A340 was really good 10/10. Return Helsinki to Hong Kong on the new A350 was dreadful. Cabin crew were not interested and service was the worst ever. The A350 was dreadful. Cabin temp was hot for the whole flight. Seat was cramped and the toilet flush noise was very loud. The window dust pane rattled the whole fligtt and down the back section baggage storage was a real issue. However the inflight camera was really cool ,1/10.

From Berlin to Helsinki in Business class. Finnair seats are not comfortable at all. Just normal seats but there is one empty seat between passengers. Internet did not work although it is complimentary in the business class. Staff was just sorry about it but could not do anything else. Food was terrible. It looked terrible and there was no taste in it. Staff just was sorry and watched it. I did complain it to Finnair and they were just sorry and provided 2000 points. I paid 1000€ for nothing.

I travelled Finnair for the first time return from Berlin to Tokyo via Helsinki. On the way there, all flights were economy, on the way back the Tokyo to Helsinki flight was business. All flights were operated impeccably. The Finnair staff were extremely polite and helpful, the food was good, the inflight entertainment was varied and, in comparison to other European and US airlines I’ve flown with long haul, they outperformed them all.

If you need to make a complaint or contact the customer service about bad service or lack of information be prepared to get no help at all. As far as Finnair is concerned the customer is always wrong. They have the attitude that as long as something is mentioned in the small print, regardless how bad the experience is they are right and they will not look at weather the customer was treated fairly or not. Never again

Flew with them few times and will do it again and again. Their Business from BKK to Europe priced incredibly competitive. On ground service is fine (when I registered in BKK girl at counter went to seek my luggage because it not came on her screen and she found it). Recommended lounge in BKK is "communal" one and really sub-par, but if you savvy enough you can go to any OneWord lounge like Cathay and be happy. On board attendant a bit "nordic" with cool tamper, but it not bothering me whatsoever - they indeed do their job properly. Seats on A340 are dated and should be ditched. I love new A330 and incredibly excited to try A350 (will happens on April). Helsinki airport super-effective. Lounge in Helsinki could be a bit better from food POV, but IMHO it fully offset by sauna. I will use them again and again and fully recommend to everyone. I did not give them 10/10 because of lounges and seats on A340 - once they replace A330 with new layout with old 340 without even notification. I specifically choose date to fly A330 and indeed I was disappointed. IMHO they (and all other carriers for this merit) should make seats uniform or as very least charge less for prehistoric seats.
