Plaza Premium Group is planning to open a pay-as-you-go lounge and an in-terminal Aerotel at Sydney Airport in 2020. The company said the 70-passenger Plaza Premium Lounge was scheduled to open late in the first quarter while the Aerotel, the first in-terminal hotel in Australia, was scheduled for early Q3. There are already Plaza Premium Lounges in Brisbane and Melbourne and the Sydney project is part of a  $US5 million global expansion plan to expand the company’s reach to 15 new locations by 2020. The London facility offers flexible booking packages with six-hour, nine-hour and overnight stays. The 20-room Sydney Aerotel will be a one-minute walk away from the arrivals hall and will cater for arriving and departing passengers. The company said Sydney airport data showed that as many as a quarter of international arrivals land before 8 am and there was a strong peak of departing passengers leaving before 9 am. “The 20-room hotel will offer these passengers an affordable sleep and rest option to relax, shower, nap or dine in the outdoor bar and café, with a dynamic pricing structure of block-hourly rates,’’ it said. The Sydney lounge promises guests “a boutique experience with unique food and beverage offerings in Australian-inspired surroundings”. Anybody can access the lounges for a fee, regardless of airline or class, and no membership is required. The entry fee includes fresh seasonal food offering, open bar, free Wi-Fi and tailored relaxing spaces in quiet surroundings. Plaza Premium Group general manager Australia Stuart Vella said opening facilities at Australia’s busiest airport marked in Plaza Premium Group’s expansion and its goal “to transform the airport experience for all travelers regardless of ticket class.
