Air India has unveiled its highly anticipated new uniforms for cabin and cockpit crew, marking the dawn of a new era in inflight couture. Designed by renowned Indian couturier Manish Malhotra at his Mumbai atelier, the uniforms showcase a vibrant array of colors and timeless designs. This collection harmoniously blends rich Indian heritage and aesthetics with 21st-century style, elegance, and comfort.

The introduction of the Air India new uniforms will be gradual over the coming months, commencing with the service entry of Air India's first Airbus A350. Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, expressed confidence in Manish Malhotra's innovative creations, believing they will script an exciting new chapter in Air India's narrative and set new benchmarks in global aviation.

Aligned with Air India's recently unveiled global brand identity, the uniforms reflect a more confident, progressive, and resurgent India. For the female cabin crew, the attire features a ready-to-wear ombré saree with intricate patterns inspired by Indian heritage architecture (jharokha) and the Vista (new Air India logo icon). The senior crew will don aubergine-to-burgundy ombré sarees, exuding authority and sophistication, while the junior crew will wear vibrant red-to-purple ombré sarees embodying youthfulness and energy.

Manish Malhotra expressed his honor in designing these uniforms, aiming to capture India's diverse culture and traditions while embodying a modern and sophisticated look. The hallmark technique of ombrés, reflecting traditional attire and gradients, is a signature touch by Malhotra. The color palette includes deep red, burgundy, aubergine, and accents of gold, paying homage to India's rich cultural heritage.

Designed for both male and female cabin crew, uniforms prioritize practicality and ease of movement during in-flight duties. The cockpit crew's uniform features a classic black double-breasted suit with a print inspired by the Vista, symbolizing professionalism and timelessness. Malhotra has also curated stylish and comfortable footwear, including dual-tone block heels for female cabin crew and black Brogues for male cabin crew.

Campbell Wilson highlighted Air India's confidence that these new uniforms will distinctly define the best of Indian heritage and hospitality, making a lasting impression on travelers worldwide. Malhotra's meticulous design extends beyond cabin crew and pilots to ground staff, engineers, and security personnel, with sustainability and quality being central to the design and production process. All fabrics and garments are proudly sourced and tailored in India.
