Vietnam Airlines on top for on-time performance

Vietnam Airlines has been recognized as one of the top 5 most punctual airlines in the Asia Pacific region as of April 2024, according to Cirium, a leader in aviation analytics. An on-time arrival is defined as a flight arriving at the gate within 15 minutes of its scheduled time. Out of 11,108 flights, Vietnam Airlines achieved an impressive on-time arrival rate of 81.85%.

This achievement is noteworthy given the increased demand for air travel, which has put significant pressure on airport infrastructure, especially during the peak national holiday period from April 30 to May 1, 2024. Additionally, the airline has faced aircraft shortages due to global engine recalls for inspections.

Vietnam Airlines joins other esteemed international carriers, including All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Peach Aviation, and AirAsia (Malaysia), on this prestigious list.

Dang Anh Tuan, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, stated: "Safety is the cornerstone of Vietnam Airlines’ operations and practices. Our priority is to upgrade service quality to provide a better customer experience. Improved on-time performance is a crucial lever of operational excellence. To achieve this, we focus on operational solutions such as reasonable flight schedules, proactively working with authorities to secure early and reasonable slots, and ensuring smooth coordination among various stakeholders and factors such as weather, air traffic, airport operations, and even aircraft maintenance. More importantly, our ‘Upgrading Service Culture’ program, implemented at the end of 2021, has enabled us to develop training and raise awareness among all employees regarding maintaining a high punctuality index, thereby fostering greater trust and satisfaction among travelers. In addition to technology, our dedicated teams efficiently manage their resources to ensure flights depart and arrive on schedule, especially in the dynamic and complex world of aviation.”

Earlier this year, Cirium’s ‘The On-Time Performance Review 2023’ also listed Vietnam Airlines as one of the top 10 most punctual airlines in the Asia Pacific.
