Perth Airport is launching a jobs fair to help its airline and airport ground supplier customers fill more than 500 vacancies as passenger numbers surge.

Almost 30 employers including Border Force and Customs and Quarantine are on the hunt for new staff as part of the three-day Perth Airport Jobs Fair which starts online on Thursday, September 8.

The fair comes as the airport reports a record number of regional passengers, and surging domestic and international travel.

For July, the airport processed 1.1 million passengers - double the number of July last year and still below the peak of 1.30 million in July 2019.

Regional passengers hit a new record of 447, 184, while interstate jumped from 72,836 in July last year to 437,832.

International leapt from 16,590 in July last year to 215,628.

Perth Airport and its airline partners have been plagued with staff shortages and COVID illness with disruptions resulting in cancelled flights.

While Perth Airport has fared better than most airports across the globe its chief executive Kevin Brown says the recruiting push will further strengthen the WA aviation sector’s recovery.

“Perth is actually fairly well-positioned thanks to the fact that we kept the FIFO sector flying throughout the Covid-19 pandemic,” Mr Brown said.

“But as we continue to recover, we wanted to reach out to our aviation, retail and government partners to see what we could do to ensure we have done everything possible to build momentum and support the aviation sector.

“There are more than 500 jobs on offer now, with more coming up over the next few months within the food and beverage outlets, retail shops, government agencies, security, cleaning services, ground/baggage handling, operations, and customer service.

“Most people don’t realise that Perth Airport does not employ all of these people. So, we have made it easy by bringing almost 30 airport companies, along with all of the airport jobs together, in an online Jobs Fair that is free and easy to navigate.

“The virtual setting of the Jobs Fair will have the look and feel of a real event, but you will have the ability to connect from wherever you are.

Mr Brown said that it is a “high-tech approach to the traditional jobs fair and gives job applicants the time and flexibility to check out potential employers, sit in on job information sessions, engage in “live chats” with employers, lodge CVs, and even book meetings and job interviews.”

Registrations for the event open today and from Sunday, September 4th the doors will be ‘open’ where users can enter the online fair to explore the jobs on offer. The live recruiting will then run from Thursday 8 until Saturday 10 September.

The Jobs Fair can be accessed through all devices including laptops, tablets and smart phones.www.perthairport.com.au/jobsfair
