Iberia is set to launch the new Airbus A321XLR, receiving the first of its kind by the end of the summer. This aircraft will enhance Iberia's long-haul fleet with a more sustainable and innovative approach, enabling the airline to operate transoceanic routes with a narrow-body aircraft, featuring a single aisle.

The introduction of the A321XLR will strengthen Iberia's destination network, particularly focusing on America. With increased range capabilities, this aircraft will allow for more efficient fleet utilization based on market demand. The initial long-haul destinations for this new model are expected to be Washington DC and Boston. Initially, it will operate on medium-range routes during its first few days in service.

A Premium Experience with a Single Aisle

The A321XLR's major innovation is its ability to perform long-haul flights as a single-aisle aircraft, while offering premium service comparable to wide-body models like the A330s and A350s in Iberia’s fleet. It will feature 182 seats in a Business and Economy cabin configuration, with various enhancements for passenger comfort, such as larger overhead compartments, six different cabin lighting styles, and an innovative entry panel.

In the Business cabin, there will be 14 individual window seats with direct aisle access. These seats will provide maximum comfort with 'full flat' seats that convert into beds, wide leather headrests, personal item compartments, and a design that ensures great comfort and privacy. Each Business seat will feature an 18-inch 4K screen for high-quality entertainment.

Passengers in all cabins can bring their own headphones and connect via Bluetooth. Improved USB type A and C charging ports and redesigned seat trays for better device use will also be available. Connectivity will be a standard, offering free WiFi for messaging throughout the flight.

The Economy cabin will have 168 seats with the latest Recaro model, the CL3810, offering a four-inch recline and leather headrests. These seats will include two extra pockets for personal items.

Additionally, the aircraft will have four bathrooms with antibacterial surfaces, motion sensor faucets, and pedal-operated waste containers.

Sustainability, a Key Factor

In line with Iberia’s commitment to reducing emissions, the A321XLR will operate more sustainably, using around 30% less fuel than wide-body models.

A Reinforcement for the Long-Haul Network

Scheduled to join Iberia’s fleet after the summer, the A321XLR, along with seven more of the same model arriving in the following months, will enable Iberia to expand its long-haul network and increase capacity on existing routes.
