Bali airport reopens

Bali's airport at Denpasar has reopened after a wind change pushed the ash cloud from Mount Raung away from the holiday island. The airport handles 300 flights a day carrying 40,000 passengers.

However airlines are warning intending passengers that the volcano is continuing to erupt and further disruptions are likely with constant wind changes forecast.

Virgin Australia said it has “offered to waive all fare differences for guests [passengers] who are booked to travel to Denpasar by 28 July 2015 and wish to switch their travel to one of 12 other island and coastal holiday destinations.”

Passengers can learn more about this option by contacting the Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89 (from Australia).

The ash cloud from Mount Raung has cost the insurance industry over A$80 million so far.

Our pictures: The pictures of Mount Raung featured here were taken by Duncan Kang, a passenger from Perth, Western Australia to Bali on Indonesia AirAsia Flight AWQ535. His flight was diverted to Surabaya around the volcano after Bali's airport was closed yesterday.
