A direct service between Perth and Shanghai on China Eastern Airlines will resume in early 2025, enhancing the connection between Western Australia and mainland China during the Chinese New Year holiday period. This seasonal service will include 10 flights between Perth (PER) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) from January 24 to February 14, 2025.
Perth Airport's Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer, Kate Holsgrove, emphasized the importance of expanding direct services between China and Western Australia.
"Currently, 66,000 Chinese visitors come to Western Australia each year, contributing approximately $303 million to the economy. With additional flights, these numbers are expected to rise, benefiting the entire economy.
"Later this year, we'll also see the return of China Southern Airlines with three weekly flights to Guangzhou, and Cathay Pacific will increase its flights to Hong Kong from six to eleven per week. More services to China will boost cargo capacity for key exports and further stimulate Western Australia's tourism industry.
"The Perth Airport team, in collaboration with Tourism WA, is continuously exploring new market opportunities and remains committed to providing safe, convenient air services for the Western Australian community," said Ms. Holsgrove.
China Eastern Airlines will operate the Shanghai service using an A330-200 aircraft, offering 232 seats and a total of 4,640 seats over the period.
