Sounds like my experience is rather typical. Family of 5 flight, there more than two hours early, could not access airport internet with my cell (needed for pin) so waited at the counter to check in when it opened two hours before the flight. BAM. 45 euro fee per person. Was extremely upset. Did know there would be a fee as this was mentioned but assumed it would be in the oh, 2 euro range. Also had planned to just check in on line. Very painful, very angry. This should be regulated. Looking on line there doesn't seem to be a way to fight this. EDITORS COMMENT: It clearly states at the time of booking like you have said that there will be fees if you don't print out your boarding card. straight after there is a direct hyperlink to this list of fees. Its expensive and doesn't seem right but they are also completely transparent when it comes to it and it keeps your airfare low by having this option to print your own card.
