My wife and I took Austrian flight I took Austrian flight OS858 on 17Dec14 from Tel Aviv to Vienne. Oh, boy....what a mistake! After takeoff, they had a technical malfunction which made the plan go back. It was not before 2 hours sitting on plan and 5 hours on the terminal that we took off again. Technical malfunctions can happen. But the way to handle a crisis is a set of actions and decisions taken by the airline company. And Austrian's was terrible altogether! 7 hours delay - and we got a coupon for cake and coffee. Even on flight no food was served. We missed our first vacation well planned evening in Vienne and came to the hotel at 2 a.m. Austrian didn't think they need to compensate or address this issue in anyway. When I addressed customer service I was answered it is an exceptional technical issue which could not have been prevented and therefore no compensation (or any formal explanation) is needed according to EU regulations. That is probably right. But I would expect Austrian to act as most top rated airlines do and take some responsibility. I was defiantly disappointed and absolutely regret I chose Austrian.
