CEA is getting an unfair share of reviewers as most may probably not be used to budget airlines. I would say you get what you paid for. Don't expect the food to satisfy you, you did not fly to eat anyway. Expect just basic English from the staff, if you don't demand too much there shouldn't be any problems. CEA took me to three cities in China from the Philippines. My first experience was a bit troublesome but I would not trade the experience for anything. We were supposed to land at Shanghai Hongqiao and we did but took off seconds after due to gusty winds and rains. Kudos to the pilot for his quick response and keen sense of safety. We instead were brought to Shanghai Pudong. After getting our luggage, a free bus service was provided for transfer. Nobody was hassled through immigration & customs. After arriving at Shanghai Hongqiao , I had to go to their counter (which is an hour away) to point out that I have already missed my flight. They informed me about the next flight and that was it. There are some systemic problems with China Eastern's online ticketing validation though. Even if online it does not verify, doesn't mean there's a problem. That was my experience. EDITORS COMMENT: Thank you for your sensible and balanced opinion. we completely agree with everything you have said. Thank you .
