I traveled from London via Hong Kong to Sydney this week with 2 children. At check in in London I was told that I was checked in all the way through with nothing to worry about. I arrived in Hong Kong only to discover that the next leg of my journey we had all been allocated separate seats and all 3 of us were going to be sitting separately. I spoke with a lady at the boarding gate and she informed me that there was nothing she could do because the flight was full. I spoke with a manager, who told me that because my ticket "was inferior" I would be separated from my children and that everyone wishes to sit together and they prioritize those who have paid more. I explained that young children need to sit with their mum and he said "you can ask someone on board to swap with you." I did manage to get the 2 children sitting together, but I was left at the back of the plane in the middle of 2 people. It seems that Cathay Pacific don't welcome families on board. It's pot luck whether you will all be sitting together and if you have paid enough for your seat you will get priority seating. Not good enough.
