The KLM contact centre was DREADFUL so I ended up booking through another company. The flight attendants weren't the best and only gave very small helpings of soft drinks but happily plied people with beer or bottles of wine (to those who had already consumed too much - including a very old man who could barely stagger up the aisle). It would have been nice to have a whole can rather than mostly froth. The food was DIRE and had no vegetarian option...the only thing to our advantage was a spare seat next to us so we had more space. I probably will use again as only flight from Bristol to Thailand (via Amsterdam) which is cheap but my expectations are very low. I think its very cheeky to ask more money for a particular seat and would have been mortified at paying an extra £120 for a comfort seat with an extra 9cm leg room. The flight attendants on both flights didn't ask the people in front of us to have their seats up on take off (as reclined) so not sure if they simply didn't notice. The ground staff also said they were unable to turn a page over to see the photo in my passport and were very condescending - obviously not skilled to turn a page over!
