I checked in for my flight and was under the baggage allowance of 20 kg., so all good. I proceeded through security and then headed towards the gate lounge. A Jetstar employee was weighing what seemed to be random people's hand luggage. I walked towards the boarding gate when I heard the female employee shout "Excuse me...excuse me"!! The woman by my side had a takeaway coffee, so I thought she was calling her. However, it was me that she had targeted!! She asked me to put my hand luggage bag on the scales, which I did. The weight was 8kg. She said you will have to check the bag through at a cost of $50.!! She then asked for my handbag to be weighed. I said I had just checked my suitcase through at a weight under the regulated amount of 20kg and if I and known, I could've taken something out of my hand luggage and checked it through at check in without incurring a $50 cost. Her reply was.."IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!" She mentioned this at least 7-8 times which apart from being rude, was infuriating. The problem I have with this encounter is that there is NO CONSISTENCY on Jetstar. I recently travelled, where no hand luggage was weighed at all. Then I travelled again recently and
