I have lived in Los Angeles for almost 4 years and travel extensively for work and personal. There hasn't been one single time thatnwe have arrived - early, on time or late - that a gate has been available. It has become a joke with the car service who can tell what airline I have flown by how long it takes me to exit after I land. After 5 hours plus from NY waiting 30+ minutes on runway is unacceptable!
