I hereby would like to compliment check in associate 陈逸轩for her excellent service at Tianhe International Airport. I was given wrong passport number on my ticketing at trip.com. She gave me hot line to call but not reply. She act tactful and proactively to amend my particular lucky it successful. She noticed my mom with a rollator and she guide us to proceed to the care counter for preparing necessary requirements. The whole process only took 10 minutes to complete. Bravo Ms Chen. I would like to compliment MU2566 and FM861 cabin crew for their gracious, warm and efficient service.

I recently flew with China Eastern Airlines and was genuinely impressed. One of the first things that stands out about this airline is its strong commitment to safety. As one of China’s major state-owned carriers and a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, China Eastern follows strict international aviation safety standards and consistently earns high safety ratings from global aviation authorities. Their modern fleet, mainly composed of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, is meticulously maintained and operated by highly trained crews. Beyond safety, the overall flying experience was excellent. The cabin was clean and comfortable, with attentive staff who managed every detail professionally. Flights departed and arrived on time, and I appreciated how smooth and calm the entire journey felt — a reflection of both technical reliability and crew competence. In short, China Eastern Airlines offers a reassuringly safe and comfortable travel experience, backed by solid international credibility and years of dependable operation. I would definitely recommend it, especially to travelers who prioritize safety and reliability above all.

My experience with China Eastern was very disappointing. The seats were small and uncomfortable, and some seats in economy class were empty but passengers were not allowed to use them without paying extra, even after takeoff. The in-flight entertainment and movies were not available in English or lacked proper subtitles, and the food was unappetizing. The cabin crew were not helpful in my case. I will not fly with this airline again

Return journey flight PVG to LGW was cancelled and I was automatically rebooked to LHR. No help provided in transport from LHR to LGW. The airline needs to improve customer service and adopt a friendly helpful attitude to passengers on international travel.

Was better than I thought. Friendly staff, very comfortable in economy. Inflight entertainment was limited compared to likes of Qantas, Emirates, SIA and Cathay. Food was okay, not fantastic nor was it substandard. Good nourishment for the flight.

Booked this flight for my 73 year old mother who a month prior had had her knee replaced. Wheelchair assistance was booked for every leg of her UK to Melbourne flight. However, when she got to Pudong, China Eastern staff treated her like garbage for her 11 hour stopover in which she was given no assistance. Staff yawned in her face, turned their back on her and refused to look at paperwork confirming the wheelchair had been arranged. Apparently wheelchairs were only for security personnel?!? Even worse service was to follow with some mumbled email apology came a week later which was then ignored when I replied to it. Phones are never answered. Finally got a second email from someone a few weeks later, no idea who as they had no signature to their email, which ignored all the issues raised in the complaint and said "I'm sorry that we didn't receive your service at the first time. It's extremely inconvenient for your subsequent itinerary. Next time I come to Pudong, please email me in advance. I'll let our regional manager come to protect you!" Oh, and also the Vegetarian meal on the flight was either fish or chicken.

Flight MU 736 Sydney to Shanghai on a B787 Dreamliner Economy Class with seating being 3,3,3 across. This was an overnight flight and heavily booked. The staff were quite friendly but the boarding procedure left a lot to be desired. Airlines that board passengers in the rear rows first make for a much better passenger experience, sadly this was not the case. Food service was somewhat haphazard with delivery of the bread roll occurring well after the meal was finished. As for the meal it was palatable, just! On our return flight to Australia it was just the same. I would not fly China Eastern again. Provided ear piece had the worst sound I have ever encountered.

China Eastern Airlines gave a really bad response when our flight was cancelled. None of the contact numbers including the 24 hour emergency number were responding, we have video evidence of this. They were rude and looked like they had a lack of training because they were unsure of what to do. I wouldn't recommend China Eastern Airlines and would never fly with them again. I am a regular flyer and this by far has been the worst airline. To save yourself time, money and your own safety I would look at other airlines even if it means paying the extra little bit of money because you will regret it otherwise.

I was detained in China because a mistake by China Eastern Airlines. No access to water, food and internet for 11 hours. Over 500 USD lost because of China Eastern Airlines. I bought a ticket straight from your website and because you did not disclose a stop in Kunming. I was forced by Chinese policemen to stay in detention for 11 hours without water because they did not allow me to enter Kunming. I am requesting a refund of USD 254 that I paid for the ticket. Since you are inaccessible I will distribute reviews each day until the case has been shut to my support. I am a Danish national. China's 24, 72 and 144 Hours transit visa program is broadly known, and I am eligible, but not when you change my ticket! Thus China would not enable me to enter in light of your stop in Kunming. The alleged non-stop trip with China Eastern Flight 2569 to Chiang Mai supposedly rescheduled to take on travelers some place in Kunming. Several Chinese police officers were inspected me for 11 hours. I was detained in the airport because China Eastern Airlines online tickets sales.

China Eastern, You pay cheap believing it is just a good bargain but the reality is more complicated. The Airplanes are relatively new but the maintenance on board is very low. Broken USB plugs, broken control for the entertainment system, broken headphones jack, broken lock in the lavatory etc. Unlike other Asian airlines from Thailand, Hong Kong or Singapore which provides a superb service, CE provides very basic service, not to say rough... It is all very technical without any understanding of what service means. Don't expect a smile or nice gesture, you won't get it. One lovely thing is the free WIFI access on the flight, but don't be happy just yet.. it is so restricted to western site that you can forget about Google, Facebook, Instagram, most messaging apps, Yahoo search etc.. it is Chinese and made for Chinese, for Chinese based sites it seems to be working just fine! Eventually, when I arrived at my destination, I've noticed major damage to my suitcase. I've reported the damage etc. 3 months passed and I haven't got any compensation yet. China Eastern doesn't respond on Facebook, on their website or to emails. They are practically not there. Dreadful service!!

Absolutely rude staff at the check in. We were travelling as a couple and were given two seperate seats 30 rows apart. This is given that we tried to check in online 24hrs before the flight and their website did not let us check in online with unclear error messages. We asked staff to see if they could reunite us given that my wife was pregnant and I couldn't leave her alone for the duration of the flight. Staff were very reluctant to help and had a very aggressive and rude attitude towards us. It looked like staff were not expecting such a simple request and were looking at us as if we were criminals for making such a request! When we got onboard, we saw lots of seats are empty and could have easily been allocated to us. We asked the crew and they changed our seats eventually, but it was a shame this was not done by check in staff in the first place! Very bad experience with this airline. In-flight service was mediocre and very basic.

the worst service from the inflight crew to the ground staff and gate agents. absoulutley disscusting service and lack of consumer compassion as my wife had a broken leg and we arranged for a wheel chair through there customer service. it never arrived . we had to wait 20 minutes in the rain in shanghai on the tarmac. ounce one showed up . it was a kids size and the took her just inside the gate door to tell her to get off they need it for another 6 customers.from the same flight . every china staff member that we spoke to could not speak English and basically laughed in are face and walked away.it took another 40 minutes to get a chair .unfortunately there is not enough room to write a full review so go to skytrax or yelp or google review and look for lisa . the staff was so rude and disrespectful that I would never recommend it to anyone

Last minute trip booked for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children, 6 yrs and 2 yrs) from SH (PVG airport) to MEL (1 way) for 5/1/19, due to sudden death of my grandmother in SH. Was originally scheduled to fly back to MEL from HK but had to double back to SH and Cathay did not have any available flights to MEL til 12/1/19. Had to settle with China Eastern Airlines as they flew direct to MEL. MU739 was due to depart SH at 12:20am on 5th Jan. By the time we reached the gate, we had already been awake for 22 hours (funeral was on the morning of 4th Jan). Was advised by ground staff at gate to bring stroller onto bus and give to ground staff on tarmac to ensure it is taken on board. There was not a single soul on tarmac when the bus arrived next to the plane, either to control foot traffic or to receive my stroller. Most passengers (being Chinese) scrambled to get off the plane and crowd onto the staircase leading to the entrance of the plane, the bitter cold and wet weather did not help matters. CE Airlines has a policy of re-scanning boarding passes right before boarding the plane (to avoid abscondees?) which they decided to carry out half way up the covered staircase. This created a bottleneck situation with more than half of the bus passengers left on the tarmac exposed to the cold and rain. I had no choice but to carry the folded stroller, along with carry-on luggage and trying to hold on to my 6 yr old daughter, up the slippery and over-crowded staircase. She slipped and fell 3 times along the way. My husband was carrying our 2 year old son and was ahead of me. When I eventually got to the entrance of the plane, my arms gave way (under excess strain) and both the stroller and suitcase fell onto the floor. A flight attendant asked why I brought the stroller up and I explained angrily that there was no ground staff to receive it and that I brought it up in fear that it would have been left behind otherwise. I also criticized that the re-scanning of boarding passes half way on a staircase was a bad practice and ill-conceived. I further said that the lack of crowd control and the wet weather posed safety risks. At this point the Cabin Manager (Yong WANG) intervened and said I was being disrespectful to cabin crew who are trying to help. I said I have not received any assistance since departure gate and that CE Airlines has poorly implemented and unsafe practices. This quickly turned into an heated argument where he accused me of being rude and unappreciative while I insisted it's the company's policies that I'm criticizing. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, I told him I wanted to get to my seat. He responded by physically blocking me and shoving me when I tried to go around him. He further demanded my passport details and boarding pass and threatened that I could not stay on the flight. I managed to move away from him eventually when two other boarding passengers directed me an alternative passage way. I found my seat and rejoined my family and explained to my husband what had happened at the entrance of the plane (being ahead of me, he did not witness the whole incident). I also obtained WANG's name and title from a helpful flight attendant at the back of the plane. I thought this was the end of the unpleasantness. I was very wrong. After about 15 minutes, a security officer approached me to say that the WANG has recommended that I be escorted off the flight, that I posed a threat to the safety of other passengers. I asked to speak with a higher ranking office who turned out to be the Captain (Jiang LI). I asked the basis for denying me carriage and he cited that I was emotionally unstable and that it was not safe for the rest of the passengers. I tried my best to explain what had happened (in rudimentary Chinese, as I left China as a small child and only possess very basic Chinese language skills). LI claimed that had I apologised to WANG before the security officer arrived, he could have overlooked the incident. And that i need to face the consequences of my behaviour (which was giving negative feedback about unsafe practices?). What's particularly memorable was a small exchange between LI and WANG, a knowing look and smile, as well as a remark by WANG that I almost attacked him (I'm a 1.6m petite asian woman, compared to WANG who is at least 1.8m and twice my build). Throughout this whole exchange, I repeated asked an interpreter which was denied by crew staff and the security office. My husband came to find me at this point and the two of us were given about 30 seconds to decide whether I would deplane by myself or my entire family of four would leave. Cabin staff also promised that there would be ground staff to assist with alternative flight and accommodation options. Worried about my well-being being left behind by myself; the fact that the two children were already unwell and whether there would be more more unpleasantness for the rest of my family if they elected to stay and most importantly, relying on their promise that there would be assistant on ground, we decided to leave the flight as a family. It was only after we arrived at the departure hall that we discovered there was no one to assist us, apart from two lowly ranked employees who brought our checked-in luggage. There was counter staff at check-in or customer service, all airline personnel had left as it was their last flight of the day. We were then told to wait by the customer service counter until 6am. I asked about accommodation and was told there was no one to arrange it. As this was a last minute trip to attend a loved one's funeral service, we did not even carry much Chinese currency on us (Currency exchange was also closed), we did not have local sim card to make phone calls or even internet access as the airport wifi is limited to local phone numbers. We were not informed there was a nearby airport hotel we could have used, but as we found the next day, there was zero vacancy anyway. We ended up being stranded at the airport from 12.30am to 6.30am, when a on-duty CE manager showed up. During those 6 hours, I carried our 2 year old the entire time while he slept and our 6 year old huddled up in the stroller to rest. We were completely helpless and near the point of collapse as we had been awake for 24 hours by then. I pleaded to be transferred to a different airline on account of the horrific experience, which was denied. I was in tears when I asked for temporary hotel accommodation as the next available flight was more than 12 hours away (7.45pm on 5th Jan), or even an empty office to rest in, which was also rejected. I used the customer service counter's desk phone to call customer service but all they could offer was to establish a case but had no power to arrange for anything. We ended up taking a taxi back to a relative's residence to get some privacy and rest before making our way back to PVG for the 7.45pm flight, which thankfully got us back to Melbourne. My children suffered high fevers for two day after our return due to the exposure they suffered on the tarmac and at the airport. My husband and I missed two days of work due to the physical toll of this ordeal and having to care for the two sick children. Since this incident, I have followed up on average twice a day with the Shanghai based customer service, I also contacted the Sydney office (as the Melbourne office never picks up calls). I sent two lengthy emails with photos attached as proof for the traumatizing experience. To date, all I have received are broken promises (to call within 24/48 hours), hand-balling of my complaint (to ground staff team) and poor English speakers who struggle to communicate and understand (surely, it's unreasonable to expect all of their passengers to be native Chinese speakers?!). I am now pursuing legal action against CE Airlines. China Eastern Airlines are single-handedly responsible for the most traumatizing and humiliating experience of my life. If you value your consumer's rights, safety and most of your dignity as a human being, do not travel with them and warn everyone you know not to travel with them.

I was quite surprised at the level of organization, friendly (as Chinese Culture allows), and efficient service. I was very hesitant to use them with the reviews they have. However, all went very well on JFK-PUD, PUD to PEK, then back. Food could be better to be honest. Very few choices if you do not eat meat or seafood. It was basically pork/shellfish or shellfish. However, on request they do cater.

Bad experience overall. AFter a reasonable check in service, I entered the China Eastern club lounge which could best be described as a cafeteria full of running screaming children. The food service is just basic and the lounge ambience is dreadful. My flight was posted as delayed and the staff offered no information. When queried the desk staff became angry and defensive. Even the duty staff manager had no clue as to what was happening with my flight. So, if there is any flight operations management with this airline, they have no care to communicate flight issues or amended plans with passengers. After a seven hour delay and no information at any time, the flight was randomly announced as 'boarding'. Only to find they had boarded the plane notwithstanding ATC advice to hold on the boarding gate for another hour. The staff on board tried to be helpful, but are clearly just the puppets of a lousy management structure. The 'western' breakast was inedible. Boiled noodles with eggs, really! The scrambled eggs themselves covered in some tomato sauce, and highly salted sausages cooked to death. The next meal no better. Then a stupid closure of all devices 1/2 hour prior

Trip from hell. The Staff was so unhelpful when I tried to ask questions they Did not want to speak English with me even though they were capable. There was No explanation of why my flights were cancelled or delayed and they would not make other arrangements for connecting flights that I had missed. When flights were cancelled they put us up in some shady hotel, did not tell us where we were going or what the name of the hotel was and did not tell us when we were getting on another flight. Finally after a few calls to the Canadian embassy they said the flight crew should have notified me that I am leaving for the airport in an hour but they told me nothing. So I got ready and finally someone came to my door saying the shuttle is leaving in 15 minutes. Like yea, thanks. Announcements were all in Chinese on flights, the seats are so uncomfortable in economy class the flights were always freezing cold and the food sucked. This was the most unhelpful and unkind Arline I have ever taken. I don't wish this experience on anyone. I will not take or recommend China eastern ever. Just don't do it.

I flew from Denver,CO(US) -KTM(NPL); This was the worst experience in my travel history. I felt like an extradited prisoner during the whole flight. The flight made unknown stop in Qingdao that was not listed in the ticket; makes you get out of the plane and go through security and put you back on the same plane again(whats the point?). cannot use cell phone in airplane mode as well, but can use a laptop(dont get this logic either). Worst of all I was told that I would claim the baggage in Kathmandu(final destination) during my checking in Denver, but they made me claim the baggage in Kunming where I had to stay with my luggage for 17 hours layover; the return flight was as painful as well The flight experience is total disaster as well; they treat you like a worst class criminal: when the flight attendant asks you to close the window and if you open in between, they come and yell at you, if they tell you open the window and if you close it, they come and yell; if you ask for additional food or drinks after the serving time, they tell you its over; chinese security stole my duty free item in the security as well without letting me know.

I and my family recently flew China Eastern SYD-PVG-CDG (return). We read a number of concerning reviews prior but we were pleasantly surprised. We had no issues at all, food was quite good, seating was comfortable. We had no issues with the cabin crew who were helpful and attentive. Our only dissatisfaction was the Shanghai Pu Dong Airport terminal where China Eastern operates out of. There is no access to the any airport hotels if you are a transiting passenger and the facilities whilst clean and plentiful do not offer any chance of a shower.

Last Thursday I flew from Xi'an to Beijing then Beijing to Nanjing then Nanjing to Sydney on China Eastern. Had a bit of trouble with check in because of the language barrier. When I boarded at Nanjing for Sydney, I explained to the cabin staff that my legs were extremely swollen due to a health issue (I was wearing surgical stockings). The cabin staff could not have been more helpful, they were great and went above and beyond to try to make me comfortable. I was very impressed by the service and attention I was given. There was plenty to choose from with the entertainment system and no complaints about the food which was on par with any other airline food I've had. I'd fly China Eatern again.

I book a ticket for myself and my mother and a friend from Toronto to Vietnam with China Easton. I had something that came up in Vietnam so I couldn't make it on that day so I told them if I could book another date to go back to Toronto it would cost me $1000 US for a new one-way ticket but it would take three weeks for a seat. I told them you would let your customer be stranded? but they didn't care they say my ticket was on sale that's why it cost that much The ticket was on sale for $790 but it end up cause me double$1500 each person. For the way back with another airline call Eva airline. I would never and ever go on this China Eastern Airlines again they are very horrible and they would leave their customer stranded to make more money for their company so I would not recommend any tickets that's on sale it would cost you double. They are very bad at everything customer service food on the plane and the flight attendants don't even speak English.

The only value China Eastern provides is their cheap price. Other than that, I would not fly this airline for international. Maybe a short domestic flight is okay but not long oversea trip. The food quality can be improved (expect Panda Express quality). The staff service was okay but rather incompetent compared to other competitions. I experienced anything from flight attendant missed serving our row to someone sitting next to me peeling and eating dried shrimp, shelves fly all over from the table down to the seat down to the floor. At first, I tried to let it pass but the smell become unbearable (imagine dried shrimp in an enclosed airplane for 12 hours). Complained to attendant but it wasn't properly handled. Overall, a rather bizarre experience. In short, China Eastern is the definition of budget flight. Just like what one would expect from a budget hotel, this is that of airline.

Today I had a flight leaving Okinawa Naha International Airport at 5:40 p.m. to Shanghai Pudong Airport. I checked into our flights at 12:30 p.m. and nothing was made known about the flight being cancelled. We had to find a ride to the airport and drove all the way to the airport and arrived at 3 p.m. ready to begin our vacation and find out that our flight was cancelled. We were never notified that it was cancelled until we got there and saw on the board that it was cancelled. I later received an email at 4:50 p.m. that our flight was cancelled, but we had already left the airport by then. When I tried to ask the representative what we are supposed to do, she was not of much help and then I was physically shoved by a group of people and she told them what was happening and what to do and completely ignored me and my husband. We finally found out after some guy translated for us that we would have to come back tomorrow and hope to get on a flight out tomorrow. Our connecting flight to Rome leaves at 12:35 p.m. and the first flight out of Okinawa leaves at 2:30 p.m. so needless to say we will miss yet another flight tomorrow. We were not offered reimbursement for any of the trouble

I would never fly this airline again. I flew from Sydney to Tokyo via Shanghai, where I had to self transit between PVG and SHA airports. Only one of my bags came off the plane at PVG. The other was left on the plane. There was zero assistance from ground staff, I had to follow up my bag myself once on Japan. Customer service were utterly useless, never contacting me back and not taking any notes about my situation. Every call was more infuriating then the previous. All the customer service could tell me was to call the airport even though they did not answer any of the three phone numbers I was given. After days and what must have been hundreds of calls, I finally got through and with a series of short emails managed to arrange my bag to go on the plane the following day. I had to go to the airport myself and collect from arrivals and bring through customs. Three days waisted with no compensation whatsoever. Don't do it, you get what you pay for, in this case zero customer service

I flew from Toronto to Shanghai on a Boeing 777-300ER in February 2017. And then a shorter flight to Bangkok. China Eastern is a "get what you pay for" situation. The flight was very reasonably priced and some of the whiners on this page seem to think they should get first class seats and service at economy prices. Or complain about everything. You are in a plane, hurdling at 900 kmh no one can expect the comforts of home! Admittedly the food was pretty ghastly, but then again so it a lot of the food in foreign countries (except Thailand). And unless you are flying first class, airline food is reminiscent of hospital food anyway. Overall, it was a good airline for the price. Not perfect but it was fine.

Then China Eastern airlines is NOT for you, they cancel your flight last minute without notifying you, when you get to the airport no representative, just the airport authorities telling you to call them, then you call them in china they can`t help because you purchased your tickets on the USA webpage then you have to wait the office to open so you can talk to them in the USA, when you do, they tell you to come back to the next available flight, no help no compensation nothing, you have no rights when flying them, be aware they are cheap but in the end the cheapest will cost you the most as we say in Brazil. The worst long haul flight I've ever had to take. These people force passengers to keep all blinds closed and switch off all cabin lights (simulated night) at all times of the day regardless of time zone and time. This isn't to "let people sleep", nobody was trying to sleep it was the middle of the day! In a 12.5 hour flight they came down with the drinks trolley twice. The food was appalling. The service was bad. I will never fly with them ever again. This is entirely the fault of company policy not cabin crews.

When we went to check in with China Airlines they had no information about us. At the end we were allowed to fly with China Air. The return trip was excellent, there was no issues with schedule, the food was excellent, staff was friendly, professional, the cabin clean. I wish this company was more consistent with schedules which is crucial for people transiting through China. I wouldn't fly with this company again and only because of the issues with timing.

Excellent customer service that goes far beyond the call of duty, beautiful stewardesses that might show you some leg if they like you, great meals, an abundance of snacks, and free TsingTao (a Chinese beer that tastes like but better than Corona or Heineken, imho) or free wine, as part of the complimentary drink choices. The best customer service I've had in all the airlines I've traveled.

I have caught 6 flights with China Eastern in the last year. Of them, 2 have departed roughly on-time (within China), two have been over 2 hours late each (between China and Taiwan) and two were cancelled (between the Philippines and China, and Myanmar and China respectively). I fly often and have used many airlines (including 5 other Chinese airlines), but based on my experiences with China Eastern I would say it should be your last choice if you want to avoid your flight being cancelled.

Upon boarding the plane we smelled a burning electrical fire smell. We asked for information from the flight staff and nothing was provided. We waited about 2 hours before any announcement was made that they had a mechanical issue with the plane. It was obvious to the passengers on the plane that the plane would not be repaired however we were forced to sit in the hot plane for several more hours. Eventually all the passengers were moved to another plane which departed at 5:05pm. No communication or announcements were given so waited about an hour as staff attempted to find all the passengers and move them to the new plane. The ground staff in Shanghai was rude, refused to answer questions or communicate with us or even look at us. At least half the flight was English speaking, and no staff would speak to English speakers or call for someone who could help. We were herded like cattle into a bus which took another 45 minutes and dropped us at a low budget motel. Again we were given no options or explanations. The motel staff was also rude and confiscated our passports against our will. They refused to give us our passports until we boarded the bus back to the airport

There was no problems boarding and the flight was on time! The the plane took off from Sydney 45 minutes into the flight the lunch service began. The food was delicious and the bread roll was delicious too and they were very kind when I asked for an extra bread roll. No issues during the flight and the flight attendants came right away when you pressed the assist button. Thw entertainment was good too. Dinner was served 2 hours before landing I chose the seafood rice and a bread roll was also served. It was delicious. When We came into land in Shanghai It was very smooth with no problems at all. When the plane parked the deboarding process was really quick, we just had to walk down the stairs into a passenger bus instead for walking through the gate. When we were deboarding the flight attendants were really kind and friendly. Overall the flight attendants were kind and friendly and they spoke english on this flight which was very helpful the food was good and there were no problems at all on this flight and I would fly with them again.

English speaking staff on plane was virtually non existent. We had issues when the plane got redirected due to heavy smog. Asking what is the problem and when will we leave to return to pu duong was met with 'no understand' Unfortunately for me and my wife, we missed our connecting flight then had trouble communicating with ground staff to get another flight and given the run around at pu duong to get an irregular flight certificate. Fortunately, they organised hotel for us but it was unpleasant and access to shops was limited. One of the few flights from Melbourne to Madrid with one stopover at shanghai. Recommend they use the bigger plane from Melbourne to shanghai as they used one from pu duong to Madrid cause a lot of people travel between Melbourne and pu duong.

Simply, don't do it! We booked for my parents. Vancouver to Shanghai to Thailand. The website is a mess. Couldn't properly book, seat select or pre-order special meals. We had to do an email dance for 2 weeks with the vancouver office to pre-select the seats and the meals. Finally it was sorted out. My parents fly, and only my mom got the meal. My dad had nothing to eat. None of the staff spoke english and kept trying to give my dad pork or noodles with pork in it- he's kosher! It was horrible for him, they wouldn't even give him more cookies just offered him more tea! I contacted China Eastern on facebook since no one ever calls back or emails back from them. They did not respond and just deleted my post! Horrible service all around! No apology or redemption. I have flown Air China and its' freaking night and day! Fly Air China or a boat with wings- it'll still be better then China Eastern. If they are this bad, then imagine their safety! Just don't fly them, if you want to select your seat beforehand, or your meal or have someone in an emergency situation be able to speak english- THEN don't fly China Eastern Airlines!

I booked travel ORD-ICN without reading any reviews of China Eastern and when I eventually got around to doing so, I became terrified. Everyone seemed to have horror stories of lost luggage or long delayed flight, but I'm happy to report I had none of these problems. My flights were ORD>PVG>ICN and the same on the return. Planes were clean and comfortable, food service was better than in used to, and entertainment was very good. Upon arriving to ICN for return flight, I found my ICN>PVG flight was delayed by 12+ hours, which would have caused me to miss my connection in PVG. I went to the China Eastern customer service desk and was promptly transferred to a direct flight to ORD on Korean Air! No problems whatsoever. I had a great experience, but my advice on a low cost airline like this is still to plan for the worst. Arrive early at the airport and try to allow for delays in your travel plans. EDITORS COMMENT: Great advice!

I flew from CCU (Kolkata, India) to ICN(Seoul, South Korea) on 5 November, 2016. I had two Layovers- one at Kunming and the other at Shanghai and on my way back two- one at Nanjing and the other at Kunming. There is no in flight entertainment and they do not allow any electronic devices even on airplane mode. I had ordered for a Veg Indian Meal but all i got was some sticky rice and boiled peas. They served me beef on my flight from Shanghai to Seoul. Its almost impossible to communicate with them as nobody speaks english. The very infamous delays extended for about 3-4 hours and no information was given about the same. I was running against time to catch my connecting flight. I lost my phone because of the rush and the staff provided me with no help regarding the same. They even managed to lose my baggage because of which i had to wait for 4 long hours at the airport in Seoul. I missed the wedding ball which i was going to attend that evening because of delay in baggage. Pathetic Food. Pathetic Services. Very Disappointed!

I took this flight from Shanghai to Kolkata on 11th of November via MU 5463/MU 555. MU 5463 was from Shanghai(15:20 hrs) to Kunming(20:35) via Hefei. I had to take this flight considering shortest travel time and I have a infant baby. The flight took off from Shanghai 30 minutes delayed. On reaching Hefei, the airline staffs asked us to get off for cleaning the flight. Flight was more than 3.5 hours delayed at Hefei. I asked the airline to give me alternate flight and I was ready to pay, however airline stuffs acted deaf. We reached Kunming at 2315 hrs. Our connecting flight was at 23:45 hrs. We had to take baggage and reach for the check in. However, it took 40 mnts for the baggage to arrive. We reached the check in counter at 2405 hours. The connecting flight MU555 was already delayed. We requested the airline staff to provide us boarding pass to proceed, however they again acted deaf. They blankly said - you have only one option - stay in hotel. We kept requesting the airline staffs until the left the gates at 12:45 hours, after which they sent to hotel. Next flight to CCU was next night. The hotel was horrible and stinking and had no proper food.

Travelled throughout China for 12 days on organised tour. One & only time flight left on schedule was when leaving Australia. Flights continually late up to 2 hours -- no information from counter staff unless pressed. Had to be transported to/from plane by bus this led to pushing & shoving by Chinese passengers which caused anxiety and bad tempers. Continual change of gate usually within 10 minutes of intended departure time Staff may be able to speak English but definitely do not understand English. Go missing after meals delivered. Drinks, other than water, were only available with meals and then only half small plastic cup per serve. Definitely would not recommend or travel with again

I flew from Melbourne to Rome via Shanghai and had no issues! Food was good. Better than what I've had on other more expensive airlines. Was delayed maybe half an hour leaving shanghai but that was no issue. Still landed at the expected time. Staff were polite. I was accidentally booked in the same seat as someone else on one flight home but the staff were quick to apologise and find me a new seat. One of my flights didnt have personal tvs (the horror!) But I survived. The shows on board were minimal but again nothing worth paying extra for a different airline. When coming in to land they play a tai chi exercise video which i thought was great! Even if I was the only person doing it.. I did find it strange that you weren't allowed to have a mobile turned on the entire flight, even on flight mode. This is the only airline I've been on to do this. Overall though i was pleasantly surprised given some of the bad reviews id seen online.

My worst travel experience ever. I reached airport at 12 pm as my departure was scheduled at 1:30pm. I was informed my flight is delayed by 3 hours for which I waited patiently. However, when I went for Boarding. I was surprised with a further delay and this time it was 12 hours delay in my flight. I had a journey of 21 hours ahead of me. In addition to which the airlines pleasantly added 12 more horrifying hours at the airport as if 21 wasn't enough. When I requested for lounge access, I was conveniently refused as economy class passengers don't deserve lounge access and can crowd their lounge. Never flying China eastern again. So much for your customer service!
