A friend and I recently took two out of the three flights we’d booked with Aeromexico, missing our last due to an error of the airline’s (we’d been ready at the gate for over an hour before being prevented from boarding) and still only decided to switch carrier after they proposed to charge us a $2000 rebooking fee on top of a demonstrably bloated ticket price (checked against the price listed on Aeromexico’s website.) I know that this pricing phenomenon is not specific to Aeromexico, but what was specific to them was the surprising disregard they showed us, and the refusal of anyone to take any responsibility for us as customers. We visited desk after desk, call-line after call-line, and at each were either sent somewhere else or told that nothing could be done. Ultimately we received no assistance of any kind. Eventually we got home via a different carrier. No emails were ever returned, though I did receive an insubstantial letter of regret, addressed to someone else. I was so blown away that I called my travel agent (whom I didn’t use for this trip, oops) to get her take, and she told me that Aeromexico is a notorious joke in her industry and that she never books with them.
