United Airlines has given the Boeing 737 MAX 10 a major boost with an agreement at the Paris Air Show to convert 100 of its current 737 MAX orders into the new larger models.

The airline also announced an order for four additional 777-300ER aircraft.

Andrew Levy, United Airlines executive vice president and chief financial officer told media that the “737 MAX 10 will enable us to continue using larger and more efficient aircraft within our domestic network and better meet the needs of our customers today and into the future.”

It was a United Airlines commitment to the 737 in 1965 that launched what is today the most successful airliner in history.

Since then United has ordered in total 720, 737s and has flown nearly every model of the 737. Up to the end of May and before the launch of the MAX 10 Boeing had sold 13,952 737s.

United expects to begin taking delivery of the 737 MAX 10s in late 2020.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Kevin McAllister said "we're excited that our long partnership with United will extend far into the future. The 737 MAX 10 will provide even more flexibility to United's route schedule and will bring to their operation the best economics of any airplane in the single-aisle segment."
