Captain Christiaan van Heijst has taken a magnificent photo of the moon over the magnificent glaciers of Prince William Sound, Alaska.
Christiaan van Heijst takes up the story from the cockpit of his 747 high over Alaska;
"A thin ribbon of the aurora, glowing stars in the house of Ursa Major and a nearly full moon illuminate the world beyond my flight deck. And it's quite a view this night.
"The rugged area on the south coast of Alaska consists of hundreds of imposing glaciers, countless of islands and the famous sheltered inlet that is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including numerous species of whales.
"I've been fortunate to visit Prince William Sound a few times by car and ship, camera at hand and enjoying the icy-blue glaciers, majestic eagles and occasional humpback fin emerging from the icy dark depths below.
"A beautiful part of the world, both from below and above. Goodbye Alaska, I can't wait to come back."
