Below is dramatic footage of an Air France A340 performing a missed approach or go-around at the famous Princess Juliana International Airport which serves the Dutch part of the island of Saint Martin.
The airport is best known for the very low-altitude flyover landing approaches due to one end of its single runway being extremely close to the shore and Maho Beach.
In this video an Air France performs a missed approach because of bad weather associated with a hurricane.
The pilots on this flight are battling severe crosswinds.
Pilots perform missed approaches if their aircraft is unstable caused by strong cross winds, severe turbulence or wind shear.
Pilots are also forced to perform missed approaches if the aircraft ahead of them doesn’t exit the runway quickly enough.
