AirAsia Group, including medium haul affiliate airlines AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X, has been once again confirmed as one of the safest low-cost carriers in the world for 2024 in the annual AirlineRatings.com rankings.

Launched in 2002 by Tony Fernandes with just two planes Air Asia has had spectacular growth over the past two decades years to become a dominant force in the Asian region.

The rise and rise of KL-based AirAsia is, without doubt, one of the airline industry’s great success stories for it has had to combat one external crisis after another, plus manoeuvre around a host of roadblocks put up by governments wanting to protect national (and often government-owned) airlines.

AirAsia and its Group airlines have re-written the rule book for airlines in Asia and beyond and today AirAsia has 255 aircraft flying to 165 destinations.

AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas said “The AirAsia Group including AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X, has an excellent safety record and has continued to pass all the major safety audits over many years. The AirAsia Group’s dedication and focus to safety is to be well commended.”

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group said: “Safety is always the number one priority affecting every airline’s brand and reputation and we are thrilled to once again be acknowledged as being amongst the best in the world for operational integrity.

“We continue to invest heavily in our safety management systems including ongoing certification via regular International Operational Safety Audits (IOSA) by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) across the airline Group, as the global benchmark for upholding the highest safety standards at all times.”

Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X said: “AirAsia X has been IOSA accredited since 2013 and we continue to remain dedicated to providing our guests with the very best in terms of safe, affordable and reliable air travel at all times for medium-haul air travel across Asia and beyond. I am truly thankful for my team’s support as we return to the skies stronger than ever across all areas including safety. I also wish to thank the team at AirlineRatings.com for their continued support of AirAsia X.”

Thai AirAsia X, sister medium-haul airline to AirAsia X which has been IOSA accredited since 2018,  also confirms its steadfast commitment to always putting safety first and is proud to achieve this acknowledgement.

Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia X said: “Safety is something that can never be compromised and underpins all that we do. We are sincerely honoured with this recognition for both our short and medium-haul airlines which continue to deliver the best value and choice both within Thailand and to our popular international destinations like Japan and Australia.”

“Thai AirAsia X is extremely proud of this recognition that highlights the dedication and operational performance of our Allstars. This recognition is a testament to the world-class quality and standards that everyone in the team takes pride in and will drive us to further improve our service, so that we may continue to deliver the safe, impressive and cost-efficient experience that our customers have always trusted us for.” Mr.Tassapon said.

Airlineratings.com was developed to provide everyone in the world with a one-stop shop for everything related to airlines, formed by a team of aviation editors, who have forensically researched nearly every airline in the world.

Our rating system is rated from one to seven stars on safety – with seven being the highest ranking. Within each airline, you will find the country of origin, airline code, booking URL and seat map information. The rating system takes into account several different factors related to audits from aviation’s governing bodies, lead associations, as well as the airlines, own safety data. Every airline has a safety rating breakdown so you can see exactly how they rate.

Over 360 of the airlines on the site that carry 99 per cent of the world’s passengers have a product rating. Given that low-cost, regional and full-service carriers are so different we have constructed a different rating system for each which can be found within each airline.
