About Maldivian

Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, is owned and operated by Island Aviation Services Ltd. Established to meet the growing demands for transportation among the islands, the airline has played a pivotal role in promoting tourism and fostering economic growth throughout the Maldivian archipelago. The airline was initially geared towards domestic operations but has since expanded its reach to include several international destinations. Its evolution mirrors the development of the Maldives as a major tourist destination, adapting over the years to offer better connectivity within the region, which has been instrumental in opening up more remote islands to economic development and international exposure. The fleet of Maldivian is versatile, designed to meet the unique geographical challenges of flying across scattered islands. This selection enables it to operate flights efficiently across short distances between islands and cater to international routes. Maintaining a modern and well-equipped fleet helps the airline ensure safety, reliability, and comfort for its passengers. The diversity in its fleet also reflects the airline’s commitment to accessibility and convenience, facilitating a seamless travel experience that enhances the appeal of Maldivian as the airline of choice for residents and tourists alike. Services offered by Maldivian are tailored to enhance the passenger experience while contributing to the tourism-centric economy of the Maldives. Along with passenger transport, it offers cargo services which are vital for the islands, given their remote locations and dependence on imports for many essentials. The airline also plays a crucial role in emergency medical services, offering timely air ambulance services to the island residents, which is a critical aspect of its operations. Additionally, Maldivian’s commitment to customer satisfaction is evident in its provision of frequent and convenient scheduling, professional in-flight service, and a focus on safety that aligns with international standards. Through these efforts, Maldivian not only serves as a key player in the Maldivian aviation sector but also contributes significantly to the overall infrastructure and connectivity of the island nation.

From Unprofessional to Unlawful – A Shocking Airline Experience My husband and I were flying from Cape Town to Berlin with a connecting flight in Amsterdam. We arrived at Amsterdam with plenty of time and sat at the gate indicated on the screens. The screen only showed a delay—there were no announcements over the speakers and no information from staff. Suddenly, we received a text message informing us of a gate change. We immediately went to the new gate and arrived just five minutes after the message, only to be told we could not board because we were “too late.” However, two passengers who arrived after us were allowed to board without issues. How is that acceptable? We were checked in, had boarding passes in hand, and were present at the airport the entire time. Based on what we witnessed, it appears our seats were given away to other passengers. To make matters worse, the three women at the gate behaved incredibly unprofessionally—they were dismissive, rude, and even laughed in our faces as we explained that our minor children were at home alone in Berlin, waiting for us to return. We asked for their names and they refused to provide them. We received no support. The complaints desk simply rebooked us for the next morning. As a result, we are now spending the night in the airport—exhausted, distressed, and extremely worried about our children at home. This experience was not only deeply unprofessional, but it raises serious concerns about fairness and compliance with passenger rights. How can it be legal for a company be allowed to operate this way? They sell you something and then do not deliver. And then there is no accountability, communication or owing up to a mistake. Deceitful company. I would be ashamed to work there.
