We flew Cathay Pacific from Perth to Hong Kong then after a layover to San Francisco. Returned Los Angeles to Perth via Hong Kong. The quality of the service could only be described as incredibly poor. Seat bookings were repeatedly changed without explanation resulting in CP insisting that my wife be seated in another part of the aircraft and check in staff were rude and hostile when asked to change the seating so we could travel together. Check in staff insisted that Economy class passengers could not reserve seats but when shown confirmation emails refused to discuss it further. It took an hour to check in at Hong Kong airport because the staff insisted we had not applied for entry to USA in sppite of being shown the printed approvals. We had to wait for an hour before they caled the supervisor who located the approvals with 3 key presses. Approaching another HK staff member resulted in him turning his head away and waving us off. We also were informed by other couple that Cathay Pacific had seperated them and we observed one couple on the HK to Perth flight having to ask other passengers if they would agree to move so they could travel together as the ground staff refused to help. Added to other on board incidents which were not satisfactorily dealt with, we have resolved never to fly with Cathay pacific again. We also lodged a complaint on their feedback system but recieved no response from the airline. After having experienced exemplary service from Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Thai Airways and China Southern I can comfortably state that Cathay Pacific is well short of their competitor's standards.
