My family and I recently booked a couple of flights with Delta. The tickets were purchased separately but as a Christmas present my mother decided to upgrade us all to first class. We tried to go in and pay for the upgrades and did so successfully for three of us. When we went to purchase the final upgrade the price skyrocketed costing more than twice as much as the last three. We called in to delta in order to try and fix things and the situation only got worse. The call quality was awful, the connection so bad that the entire conversation had to be repeated multiple times. The person on the other end of the phone was barely able to speak English also, which made the call that much more difficult. After nearly half an hour trying to work things out we were told it would be impossible to book the fourth ticket on the same price. This isn't the first time I've had difficulties with Delta but it will be the last time until they can get their act together. EDITORS COMMENT: That call center scenario you've described is unacceptable and unfortunately all too common. With regards to the pricing, its simpe supply and demand - as soon as half the seats for example are sold the others go up in price as the demand for availability is now higher.
