Icelandair review by Flavia 2013-07-23

BOEING 757-200 (and, possibly, Boeing 757-300) Denver--Reykjavik--Copenhagen Copehagen--Reykjavik--Denver I flew Icelandair twice since they entered the Denver market in May of 2012, and both times I had miserable experiences. The first time, last May (2012), flying from Denver to Reykjavik (then, on to Copenhagen), the flight attendants came through the cabin ONCE, when they offered complementary beverages. They never mentioned how they were going to offer/handle the meal-for-purchase issue, so I ended up not being able to even ask for a small sandwich the entire flight. The seats were extremely uncomfortable, with so little leg room that I needed to reach out way under the seat in front of me (I am 5'4", and weigh 110 lbs!!)... Then, on the return flight, I was completely ignored by the cabin crew since the ladies were more interested in tending to the raucous Icelandic ice-hockey team, who were getting drunker and drunker by the hour! Fast forward to my trip this past January (2013)... only this time, at least, I had the common sense to purchase a meal at the Denver International Airport. However, the service and traveling conditions were equally bad once on the plane. The 'ugly' story, though started with the complete damage of one of my pieces of luggage, which contained important and necessary books and documentation for a conference and a two-month class I was going to teach at a university in southern Sweden. Since you don't take ratings for the luggage handling here, I will have to pursue my complaint somewhere. Trying to deal with Icelandair's 'Customer Experience' (i.e. 'Customer Support') has been a grueling task, with a dead end. I have been treated with total lack of professionalism and respect. And, mind you, Icelandair is NOT the cheapest "low-cost" airline to fly with either, between the U.S. and Northern Europe! In fact, their prices are outrageous for such short flights, no matter how far in advance you do the booking!
