Flew from SF to Delhi via Shanghai. Flight was cancelled at the last moment. Was promised a hotel at Shanghai due to the arbitrary cancellation but staff in Shanghai pretended that no hotel was promised. Almost no one spoke English and most ground staff just avoided attending to me. Finally found a manager who provided a hotel that was awful and had to share with a young man who also stranded. As a female senior citizen, this was not what I had counted on. A young Chinese co-passenger was kind enough to help me find a manager, but otherwise airport staff was rude, uncooperative and unhelpful. Had I not found a manager I would have had to spend more than 24 hrs at the airport. As a retired airline employee I was shocked by the awful service.
