Business Class

Flew form Cape Town (South Africa) to Phuket via Singapore and again from Bangkok via Singapore to Cape Town. Aircraft departures and arrivals on time or somewhat early. Staff friendly as can be expected. Aircraft on most legs were old and rattle boxes, seating very uncomfortable in economy class. Sound systems at times poor to bad. The stop- over in Singapore, however, was very pleasant and was the only thing that "saved" the entire experience from rated as "Very Bad". I presume that South Africa, being part of Africa, is rated as "third world" and therefore does not merit the use of newer aircraft on the long travel legs (14 hours Cape Town to Singapore). In comparison Qatar uses the new Dreamliner on its Doha/Cape Town leg and therefore they fly this route every day and not three times a week as is the case with Singapore Airlines. Emirates three flights a day from Cape Town! Question is what do Qatar and Emirates do to attract passengers that Singapore does not do? In my book it is not so much the special flight packages that are offered but the aircraft that is being used.
