I have been on a few Ryanair flights, and have decided that enough is enough with this type of cattle-class service they offer. Cramped seats, and a mentality where money seems to mean everything and where almost every extra small thing must be paid for in way over-the-top fees. In the end, the seemingly cheap fares turn into a cascade of costs. A related part of this is that the baggage weight limits don't match international carriers, which is a real problem particularly in winter; on my last flight I had to wear triple layers of coats just so that I didn't have to pay for what I felt were highly exaggerated extra luggage charges. I noticed that they have in the past made their carry-on bag dimensions a fraction smaller than other airlines, so as to make the customer feel forced to pay and put it underneath, or alternatively to buy the special dimension luggage cases they themselves sell on their site. Not sure if they still do that, but I felt like they were intent on creating problems for unsuspecting naive customers with that rule. On the last flight I took from Graz to London in mid 2012, they flew directly into a thunderstorm, (which according to an Austrian Air pilot we later spoke to, is something most airlines won't do). It was bumpy like crazy and I have never seen people bounce so high in the air with seatbelts on. There was no way that plane should have flown into that storm, and it didn't help that the stewards on board spoke an english that was barely understandable to most people. Why can't no-frills airlines teach their staff how to speak clearly over a PA system? When it came time to land, the plane descended really fast, I suppose just so they could say they landed on time. It is a pattern of landing I have noticed before with them. Very steep and fast descents. The no-frills concept I understand, but whatever happened to even half-decent quality service? If others feel they want to travel with them, fine, but I and my girlfriend prefer some type of genuine human treatment and some of the other low-cost airlines function in such a way that they offer still a noticeable amount of that. No more Ryanair for me.
