Probably the worst airline I have ever seen. Do not ever fly with these people, the worst customer service you can imagine. We were flying from Cusco, Peru to San Jose, Costa Rica with stopovers in Lima and Bogota. We performed the online check in and got boarding passes on our passbook for all of our flights up to our end destination. When we got to cusco airport the representative only checked our luggage up to bogota, even though our end destination was Costa Rica. When we get to Bogota airport there is no way for us to get our bags as we don't have a Colombian visa to go through immigration to baggage claim. We try calling Avianca airlines telephone number, spoke to some guy named Alan, and he said no one will be available for him to call until 7 am. Our flight is at 8. I asked him if there is anyone that works for Avianca he can get ahold of in Bogota airport, and he said no. Completely unwilling to help. We find the avianca office in Bogota airport and wait until 2:30 am for it to open. Lady walks in and we ask her to please help us have someone get our bags so they don't get lost and they are sent on our flight to Costa Rica. She says there is nothing she can do
