We flew from San Francisco to Toronto, and our flight was 4 hours late, as they had to change planes in Toronto due to mechanical issues. This has been the case about 80% of the time when we flew Air Canada over the years. They gave us a 10 dollar voucher for the delay, which doesn't buy you anything at an airport. When we were finally boarding, they handed out a voucher for 15% off our next flight. Once we were inflight, they still charged for meals! Since our flight was return from Australia, and booked through Qantas, we weren't charged for our bags. Otherwise we would have been at the mercy of Air Canada , paying for the first checked bag. The Qantas portion of our trip was awesome, with 2 hot meals snacks, wine etc. No comparison. I feel embarrassed as a Canadian when I see reviews from foreign travellers having to endure Air Canada. In other countries , if they provide no frills service , they promote themselves as budget airlines, and charge less. In Canada, both Air Canada and WestJet provide no frills service at premium price, although WestJet is a far better airline.
