I was on Air India flight AI 236 from Yangon (Myanmar) to Delhi (India) on 20th Jan. This is a once a week direct service that stops in Gaya (the Buddhist Pilgrimage place). Shortly after take-off there was a loud bang due to an bird strike and the flight made an unscheduled landing back in Yangon. Due to engine damage the flight was grounded. The 100 or so passengers had to spend an extra night in Yangon which was efficiently arranged. The Air India staff of Alang Kumar Basu and Hnin Lei Lei Wai did a commendable job of re-routing passegers, and showed remarkable patience and calmness in handling the irate bunch. I flew back on Thai via Bangkok, which went off rather smoothly. This incident was not reported in the papers or news, nor has there been a followup by the Air India staff. This is concerning. The plane operating on this route was a 30year old AirBus-320 that clearly showed its age. I would have appreciated a followup from the airline on what really happened with the aircraft...was it eventually repaired...was this an avoidable incident?
