Economy Class

Flew Melbourne-Shanghai-Paris and returned Paris-Chengdu-Shanghai-Melbourne. At each stop over was made to go through customs, collect my bags, wait (up to 3 hours) for staff at the boarding area to open, check in, and go back through customs - even after requesting that my bags be automatically forwarded to my final destination. I was told off repeatedly for listening to music on a personal device (on flight mode), and not allowed to use my eBook reader (on flight mode) during the flights as "no electronic devices" were allowed. I was not told this at time of booking. Overhead announcements were sometimes not translated to English. At the check in area I asked to speak to a manager to make a complaint and was laughed at and directed to another queue where no one spoke a word of english. I asked to drop my bags off immediately after collection during a 6 hour stopover, so I could organise a shower and find internet (to inform family I was safe after a terrorist attack), and was told I would have to wait for the counter to open. Three counters were staffed, with staff playing on their personal mobile phones.
