We arrived at the airport from Montreal back to the states about 90 minutes before our flight. There was a very small line at the check-in desk. The line was not moving. An Air Canada employee told us to go to a kiosk to save time. The kiosks did not accept us, and referred us back to the check-in at the desk. Again, the line was not moving. We got the attendants attention, but he refused to help, and told us to wait in line. Then everyone at the check-in counter DISAPPEARED for 20 minutes. When an agent finally returned to the desk, he told us we are too late (check-in closes an hour before departure), and that we'd have to purchase another ticket or stay the night and fly back in the morning. I ended up staying the night (and incurred more lodging expenses), but my partner had to leave that night. In total it cost us nearly $600 extra. Air Canada would not listen to our complaints and basically said it was our fault and their policy states that travelers should arrive at least 2 hours before a flight in order to ensure a spot on the flight. Pathetic. EDITORS COMMENT: You should have been at the airport earlier yes but when its their check in and technology that stops you from actually being able to check in that's not right.
