Spirit Airlines IMO is terrible. We only get 1200 characters, not enough to describe all the negatives. Where to start? This airline charges for printing a boarding pass, so you have to get your own. What if you spent $687 on your flight and don’t have money at the airport, will they tell you ‘sorry you cannot board’? I can’t believe this is legal. Two of my family members flew together and were seated apart. The plane had empty seats; when we asked if they could sit together, the airline said we would have to pay extra – other airlines would try to help. This was a multiple hour flight, my family members said they were not offered anything to eat or drink on the plane, not even water, not even something simple like a cookie or some peanuts. We had a bag that was over their 40 pound limit (a return flight for my niece), but the airline here had no issue with it. Spirit required an extra $110 to fly the bag on the flight & connecting flight. Off the record, an agent told me we could have flown the bag direct to save – why not tell me earlier? Trying to contact the airline – no chat service; phone numbers do not give you a person. Out of space, but there is more.

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had traveling. I was coming home from laying my 18 year old nephew to rest. Left San Diego and had a layover in Las Vegas where we were informed we had to pay $100 for our carry on which had been free for three flights on the same trip. They gave my wife a paper shopping bag to put her belongings witch took up more space than our carry on and made us leave our luggage at the airport because we couldn’t afford the extra fee that we were not told about until at the gate. Very disrespectful and uncaring towards their customers. I won’t even mention how terrible the flight experience was. Spirit is a scam that tries to make you think you’re getting a good deal.

They set their fares lower on initial ticket price, then kill you on baggage fees. $55 to carry on, $50 to check in on my LA-Chicago flight. That’s each way! They don’t serve a complimentary drink (that’s extra), you have to pay extra to pick seats, etc. End result is they are not that much cheaper, if at all in many cases, than other airlines and they are the least comfortable airline in the US — uncomfortable seats with little room. In other words, they are TERRIBLE! Choose another airline. Seriously.
EDITORS COMMENT: This is why it’s important to do a final tally and check other airlines before actually paying. All the fees are stated throughout the booking process so its important to add them all up first.

I have no complaints (for the most part) about Spirit Airlines; however, there were two things I want to make ‘official’ mention of…
If you’re planning on paying the additional $50 pp for the ‘wide seats’ near the front, keep in mind that if you’re planning on sleeping (especially if you’re taking a ‘red-eye’ flight like we did from Niagara Falls to Fort Lauderdale a number of times), you’re best off to just take a regular seat since the flight staff will be chattering away (very close to you) and you will have a hard time sleeping.

My second concern is regarding a flight I took on Sun., Oct. 30th/16, leaving from Fort Lauderdale going direct to Niagara Falls, NY. I called the day before to discuss the assistance I would need as I was travelling on my own and had 3 heavy bags, 2 of which were keyboard cases, not easily loaded onto a normal baggage cart. I was told (clearly) that I would not need to worry, that a person would be ready to assist me with these items; I assumed they meant by using a flat-bed type cart or possibly just having a person help me to carry them through to a place to be held while I waited in the lineup to check in. NO SUCH LUCK! TERRIBLE TIME !!

I absolutely cannot believe these people. The really, truely do not care about you.
Our flight to Costa Rica was cancelled because of hurricane Matthew. I understand that, and we were very patient. The next day they got us a flight. It is not direct of course and we had to go through Florida. We got to Florida at 8pm, and were then informed that there was not a connection until10am the next day. Thanks. So we spent a very uncomfortable night in the airport.
Coming back from Costa Rica our connecting flight was an hour after we were supposed to land. I had hoped that we would arrive early so we would have time to go through immigration and security. Instead, the plane left 20 minutes late, and landed 20 minutes late. Customes went smoothly, but security was packed.
We ran to the gate and watched them close the door in our face. Of couse this flight had to leave at exactly 7pm, not like the one before. We were 6 feet away when they closed the doors, and said “we already closed the door, you will have to re-schedule.”
So here we are stuck at the same airport, 7:15pm, and the next flight is 6pm tomorrow. I just can’t belive it. They really don’t care.
